'70s-Vintage Arlington Retail Being Renovated For The 21st Century
Weitzman has kicked off a major renovation of the 157K SF Fielder Plaza, one of the oldest grocery-anchored retail centers in Arlington.
Fielder Plaza, located at 1701 West Randol Mill Road at Fielder Road, opened in 1978. The renovation will add more contemporary elements to the property.
The work will include a new facade, signage, landscaping, parking and lighting. The property will also receive raised identification towers and lifestyle elements, including seating, arbors, green space and other pedestrian-friendly enhancements.
“Despite its age, Fielder Plaza has remained one of the best-performing centers in the trade area,” said Weitzman Asset Manager Joe Lea, who is overseeing the project.
Overall, grocery-anchored retail has had a good run in recent years, beating malls and power centers in landing tenants and in investor interest.
Fielder Plaza is anchored by a 52K SF Tom Thumb grocery store. The grocer is completely remodeling its interior, and Weitzman will then renovate the store’s exterior.
Besides Tom Thumb, tenants include CVS, Starbucks, Pet Supermarket, Mathnasium, Edible Arrangements, Batteries Plus, Luna Spa, Tandoor Indian Restaurant, Bombay Bazaar, Sukothai Restaurant and Hudson’s Barbers.
The architect for the remodel is Hodges & Associates, while Weitzman’s Kathy Detrick is overseeing construction.
