City of Mesquite partners with a developer to revamp the old Northridge Shopping Center.

The site's owner, CenterPoint Commercial Properties, acquired the dated shopping center, located at 1805 Galloway Ave., in 2020 and plans to inject $650K in upgrades.

CenterPoint is implementing a series of exterior touch-ups, new tenant signage, roof repairs and storefront renovations to woo retailers and improve the overall appearance of the neighborhood.

The city also is helping CenterPoint revitalize the center as part of an ongoing plan to bring aging shopping centers back to life in the East Dallas suburb.

Mesquite will provide the developer with $100K to fix the center's facade and signage. In addition, Mesquite's city council agreed to rebate property and sales taxes generated for the next 10 years to help fuel the site's comeback.

“This is an investment in retail and residents. The improvement of this popular shopping plaza will enhance its viability with securing and maintaining tenants. It will also infuse pride in citizens who live in the nearby neighborhood and shop at Northridge Shopping Center," Mesquite City Manager Cliff Keheley said in a statement.

CenterPoint also plans to implement electrical upgrades and maintain the site's 1960s retro image by preserving the original Northridge Shopping Center sign.
