Tryba Designs Whiskey Ranch Near Fort Worth

Denver-based Tryba Architects was tapped to design Whiskey Ranch, a recently opened 112-acre whiskey wonderland that is home to Firestone & Robertson Distilling Co.’s second location in Texas.

Tryba carefully planned the site — on a fully functioning 18-hole golf course — with a large-scale whiskey production facility to the south and hospitality and administration functions to the north. A central courtyard serves as a connector and outdoor event space with views of the Fort Worth skyline.

“We wanted to integrate the visitor experience with the production experience, but it was the land that was most inspiring to us,” Tryba Architects Lead Design Principal David Tryba said.

Whiskey Ranch, the largest whiskey distillery west of the Mississippi River,  allows F&R to cater to the rapidly growing demand for its whiskey by increasing production of TX Whiskey and TX Straight Bourbon. The original F&R Distillery, just south of downtown Fort Worth, continues to operate and focus on producing new Texas whiskeys. Both distilleries will promote the brand’s expansion plans across the United States and internationally.

The Whiskey Ranch’s grand stone entrance and winding paved road lead visitors to the front of the property, which is the main artery called The Courtyard. The Courtyard separates the visitor center and the operations buildings and has been designed to showcase the view of downtown Fort Worth.

The Ranch House is the main visitor center and includes the Oak Room, which has a floor-to-ceiling tiered-rock fireplace, sealed concrete floors and seating for 180 people. The Oak Room opens onto the Back Porch, a two-sided deck and covered patio with additional seating for 140 and two outdoor fireplaces.

A bar and tasting room called The Tavern will serve as a gathering place for tastings and other social events.

Founded in 2010 by Leonard Firestone and Troy Robertson, F&R released its first whiskey brand — TX Blended Whiskey — in June 2012.
