Children’s Hospital CTO Andrew Blackmon Talks Cutting-Edge Tech
This morning we brought together top Denver-area healthcare real estate pros for a Bisnow event, where all agreed the sector is one of the least predictable. Still, demand for healthcare is up because of an older population and more insurance coverage, so even with the sector's risk, savvy real estate players will be able to do well. Speakers included Children’s Hospital Colorado’s Andrew Blackmon, CBRE’s Chris Bodnar, H+L Architecture’s Steve Carr, Catholic Health Initiatives’ Courtney Hanfland, NexCore Group’s Tim Oliver and Health Care REIT’s Mike Noto. Look for full coverage in our next edition.
Ahead of the event, we spoke to Children’s Hospital Colorado CTO Andrew Blackmon about cutting-edge tech--and how health systems collaborate to drive down costs. For example, if a patient has expensive imaging tests but then transfers to another system, there has to be fast technology to transfer the entire medical record, Andrew says. That will reduce errors and remove the expense of repeating studies.
For the second consecutive year, Children's Hospital Colorado was named a 2014 "Most Wired" hospital by Hospitals and Health Networks magazine. The award recognizes hospitals and health systems for having excellent IT capabilities, routine use of electronic health systems and digital clinical imaging.
