Denver’s 17th Street Plaza Is Enhancing The Customer Experience In More Ways Than One

One of every two businesses looking for downtown Denver office space focuses on LoDo and the central business district.

Companies flocking to LoDo, a recently revitalized neighborhood, can find a growing collection of trendy restaurants, entertainment, shopping and various cultural destinations, as well as nearby lodging and transportation. At the gateway to the central business district within LoDo and just blocks from the recently renovated Union Station, 17th Street Plaza has undergone a similar revitalization. The building attracts modern office workers while keeping current occupants excited. LoDo has experienced a major influx of young professionals who push for these spaces, and the 32-story building has adapted accordingly with its owner, Equity Commonwealth, leading the charge with its customer-centric staff, shared spaces and on-site amenities. The company's commitment to the customer experience has attracted and retained major companies like Gensler and CBRE — with an additional 160K RSF of office space available.

The Equity Commonwealth team assumed oversight of the building two and a half years ago. The company has made numerous enhancements. After walking through the front doors, employees traverse a modernized two-story lobby to three elevator bays with 18 high-speed cabs. Each elevator is equipped with Captivate screens that display the morning news, weather and essential daily information. Equity Commonwealth also moved the property management office to the first floor where customers can bring their questions, concerns and ideas to the management team. “This is where the action happens, and the new location allows management to keep better tabs on the building,” Equity Commonwealth vice president John Gallander said.

Collaboration between the building's staff and customers is strongly encouraged. The building’s concierge, who recently won the Employee of the Year award through Metro Denver BOMA, is the go-to person for information on the latest local happenings, discounts and building-wide gatherings — past events have included bimonthly beer tastings and ping pong tournaments. The concierge can help plan company events in the numerous shared spaces. Colleagues can come together for lunch on the landscaped outdoor plaza and rooftop deck or a companywide meeting at the on-site conference center that holds over 100 people. The former offers a unique outdoor experience in the middle of the city with panoramic views of the Colorado landscape.

Other amenities in the building also go beyond basic services. Not only does 17th Street Plaza have a fitness center, but it also partnered with the health club next door to provide discounted memberships for expanded fitness services. Commuters have access to covered parking for both cars and Denver’s growing community of cyclists.

The building will be launching a new option for smaller companies called OfficeNOW in spring 2017, which will further its mission of building spaces around its occupants’ changing needs. Recognizing the need for flexible lease terms and shared communal spaces, OfficeNOW offers fully furnished, private, move-in ready suites. Equity Commonwealth is one of the first owners in the market to offer this type of space, which appeals to startups, technology firms, independent contractors and companies looking for flexible space on demand.

OfficeNOW and the amenities spread throughout the building prove Equity Commonwealth’s willingness to invest in their customers’ happiness. In a neighborhood that stands out for its modern amenities and attractions, this classic high-rise keeps changing with the times to become a standout office building in LoDo.
