Dublin City Planners Reject Ronan High-Rise Tower
The planning board have rejected plans by Johnny Ronan's company Ronan Real Estate Group to build Dublin's tallest building next to Tara Street station in the city centre.
Originally Ronan submitted plans for a 22-storey tower containing offices, a hotel and a rooftop restaurant.
In their rejection the board cited the "significant and detrimental visual impact" on the city's skyline if the tower was built, according to Independent.ie.
In his appeal, Ronan argued he followed the council’s own planning policies for the Tara Street scheme. He also argued that the George's Quay area was named as a location for high buildings of more than 50 metres in the 2016 Dublin City Development Plan.
Before submitting the planning application Ronan Group prepared more than 30 proposals for Tara Street and reviewed them from 42 areas in the city to assess their impact on the skyline.
An independent assessment carried out on the company’s behalf by international city design expert Richard Coleman concluded that the tower would complement the Custom House.
