Jeff Handlin

Jeff Handlin founded Oread Capital & Development in 2011. Prior to founding Oread Capital & Development, Mr. Handlin served in executive roles at recognized national homebuilding and real estate development companies including: Founding Partner of Starwood Land Ventures; Officer and National Vice President for M.D.C. Holdings, Inc., the parent company of Richmond American Homes; and Vice President with Taylor Woodrow (currently known as Taylor Morrison). At M.D.C. Holdings, Mr. Handlin managed all acquisitions company-wide, representing over 12,000 residential lots across the U.S. between 2009 and 2011, with acquisition costs over $600 Million. Also while at M.D.C., Mr. Handlin led the acquisition of SDC Homes, at the time the third-largest homebuilder in the Seattle market. Beginning in 2007, prior to his time at M.D.C., Mr. Handlin was a founding partner in Starwood Land Ventures, based in Bradenton, Florida. Mr. Handlin led all Florida acquisitions while at Starwood Land, representing over $100 Million in direct acquisitions, including the acquisition of substantially all the Florida assets of Tousa-Engle Homes from its bankruptcy estate. Upon receiving a J.D. from Duke University, and prior to his work as a land development and homebuilding executive, Mr. Handlin began his legal career at the law firm of Carlton Fields in Tampa, Florida, where he focused on real estate development, finance, and homeowners association law. Mr. Handlin graduated cum laude with a B.A. from the University of Kansas. Mr. Handlin is a member of the ULI’s National Community Development Council and ULI’s Colorado Community Development Council. Mr. Handlin strongly supports education; he serves as an adjunct professor at the Daniels College of Business at the University of Denver; and continues to serve on various boards at the University of Kansas.

As Senior Vice President of Master-Planned Communities, Kyle develops and oversees the strategic vision, development and execution of large-scale, multi-use projects, in addition to sourcing new master-planned community opportunities. Kyle currently leads the community development team’s strategy and sustainable initiatives for McWhinney’s 3,000-acre award winning master-planned community, Centerra, located in Loveland, Colo., in addition to its 1,100-acre master-planned community, Baseline, situated in Broomfield, Colo. With more than two decades of expertise in developing large-scale and multi-use projects along the front range, Kyle’s keen vision, creativity and thoughtful placemaking brings long-term value and meaningful impact to residents, businesses, and visitors. Prior to joining McWhinney, Kyle spent 11 years with Granby Ranch, a 5,000-acre community located in Granby, Colo., as CEO and Vice President of Development. During his time with Granby Ranch, he managed the development of 850 residential units, developed a new master plan for the community, extended entitlements by 40 years, established a variety of community amenities including a skier services building, golf clubhouse & event pavilion, community pool and fitness facility, downhill mountain bike park, and 40 miles of community trails, all while leading the team that turned these amenity operations to profitability. Additionally, Kyle served as president of the community metropolitan districts. Kyle has also held leadership positions with other noted Colorado mountain resorts, including Devil’s Thumb Ranch and Zephyr Mountain Lodge at the base of the Winter Park Resort. Kyle believes the intrinsic value of a master-planned community lies in the benefits it provides to its users, namely families looking to connect and live a life with purpose. A committed family man himself, in his free time Kyle enjoys Nordic and alpine skiing, mountain biking, road biking, trail running, travel, food and wine.
