Johnese Spisso

CEO - UCLA Hospital System

Johnese Spisso was appointed to the position of President of UCLA Health, CEO of UCLA Hospital System and Associate Vice Chancellor of UCLA Health Sciences on February 8, 2016. She is a nationally recognized academic healthcare leader with more than 30 years of experience, and oversees all operations of UCLA’s hospitals and clinics as well as the health system’s regional outreach strategy. Before coming to UCLA, Spisso spent 20 years at UW Medicine, in Seattle, Washington, where she was chief health system officer and vice president of medical affairs for the University of Washington. While there, she played a major role in expanding collaborations with regional hospitals and in the operational integration of two major community hospitals into UW Medicine. She also helped to lead development of a statewide trauma system. Trained as a registered nurse, Spisso rose through the ranks at UC Davis Medical Center to direct critical care; trauma, burn and emergency services; and the Life Flight Air-Medical Program. Before that, she was a critical-care nurse in the medical, surgical and transplant intensive care unit at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center Presbyterian. Spisso received a master’s degree in health care administration and public administration from the University of San Francisco, and a bachelor’s degree in health sciences from Chapman College. She received her nursing degree at the St. Francis School of Nursing. She has published numerous articles and book chapters on healthcare leadership.

Thomas Priselac

President & CEO - Cedars-Sinai Health System

Thomas M. Priselac is President and Chief Executive Officer of the Cedars-Sinai Health System -- a position he has held since January 1994. Mr. Priselac has been associated with Cedars-Sinai since 1979. Prior to being named President and CEO, he was Executive Vice President from 1988 to 1993. Before joining Cedars-Sinai, he was on the executive staff of Montefiore Hospital in Pittsburgh. An author and invited speaker on health policy issues, Mr. Priselac has served the health care field in various roles during his career at Cedars-Sinai. He is a past Chair of the American Hospital Association Board of Trustees and past Chair of the Association of American Medical Colleges. Prior to those roles, he chaired the Hospital Association of Southern California, the California Healthcare Association, and the Association of American Medical Colleges Council of Teaching Hospitals. The holder of the Warschaw/Law Endowed Chair in Healthcare Leadership at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, Mr. Priselac also serves as an adjunct professor at the UCLA School of Public Health. A native of Pennsylvania, Mr. Priselac obtained a bachelor’s degree in Biology from Washington and Jefferson College in Pennsylvania, and a master’s in Public Health, Health Services Administration and Planning, from the University of Pittsburgh.

Dr. Robert Pearl is Executive Director and CEO of The Permanente Medical Group and President and CEO of the MidAtlantic Permanente Medical Group. Together these organizations are comprised of over 9,000 physicians and 34,000 staff members. Dr. Pearl is responsible for the health care that is delivered to approximately 4 million Kaiser Permanente members in the states of California, Virginia, Maryland and the District of Columbia. Board certified in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, Dr. Pearl received his Medical Degree from Yale University School of Medicine. He completed his residency in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at Stanford University and currently serves on the faculty as a Clinical Professor of Plastic Surgery. He is also on the faculty of the Stanford Graduate School of Business where he teaches courses on strategy, leadership and health care technology. Selected by Modern Healthcare as one of the most powerful physician leaders in the nation, Dr. Pearl has published more than 100 articles in various medical journals and has been a contributor to many books. He has made over 100 presentations at national meetings in the areas of both clinical medicine and medical economics. Recently, Dr. Pearl was a featured speaker at both the Commonwealth Club and the Institute for Healthcare Improvement’s National Quality Forum event. In addition, he participated in the Bipartisan Congressional Task Force on Delivery System Reform and Health IT. Most recently, he became the Chairman of the National Council of Accountable Physician Practices. Dr. Pearl is a frequent lecturer on the opportunities to use 21st Century tools and technology to improve both the quality and cost of health care, while simultaneously making care more convenient and personalized. Dr. Roger Hadley

Dean, School of Medicine, Chair of the Board & President, Loma Linda University - Chief Medical Officer, LLUH

Roger Hadley was born and raised in Glendale, California. After completing two undergraduate years at Loma Linda University, he was accepted into Loma Linda University’s School of Medicine in an experimental accelerated program. He earned the B.S. and M.D. degrees from Loma Linda University in 1974. Dr. Hadley completed residency in surgery at Loma Linda University Medical Center, becoming board certified in that specialty in 1981. In 1983, Dr. Hadley completed a urology residency at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), followed by a one-year fellowship in female urology and urodynamics at that same institution. His student and resident journey was not limited to the United States but included studies abroad – Saigon, Vietnam; Davos, Switzerland; Athens, Greece; and Edinburgh, Scotland. In 1984, Dr. Hadley returned to Loma Linda University’s School of Medicine as a full-time faculty member. In 1990, he was appointed head of the Division of Urology, and in 1991, he achieved the rank of Professor of Surgery. Dr. Hadley served as director of the Loma Linda University Urology Residency Program (1990-2003). In 1995, he was elected by his peers to be the founding President of Loma Linda University Health Care, the management services organization that governs the administrative infrastructure of the clinical faculty. He currently is the chair and president of that corporation. In 2003, he was appointed Dean, School of Medicine, Executive Vice President of Medical Affairs of Loma Linda University Health, and Chief of Staff of Loma Linda University Medical Center and Children’s Hospital. In 2015, he was appointed Chief Medical Officer of Loma Linda University Health. Dr. Hadley has authored more than seventy articles in professional journals and has written more than twenty chapters in medical textbooks.

Dr. Margaret Peterson

Margaret R. Peterson, PhD, serves as President of Dignity Health - California Hospital Medical, a 318-bed community hospital located at 1401 South Grand Avenue in downtown Los Angeles. Peterson began her career as a registered nurse. She earned a Master of Science in Nursing and a Master of Science degree in Cardiovascular Nursing from The Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C., and her Doctor of Philosophy in Administration from Miami University in Ohio. Peterson has served in executive leadership roles over the past several years. Most recently, she was chief executive officer (CEO) at Desert Valley Hospital and Desert Valley Medical Group in Victorville, California, where she lead expansion efforts that included the opening of a comprehensive heart center. Prior to that, Peterson was CEO of Victor Valley Community Hospital and Simi Valley Hospital and Health Care Services in Simi Valley, California. She has also held executive leadership positions at hospitals in the states of Louisiana and Maryland. Peterson has been honored by several organizations for her community leadership and named as “2005 Woman of the Year” by the 38th Assembly District of the California State Legislature. More recently, she received the President’s Award for Leadership from the Victorville African American Chamber of Commerce. A results-oriented leader, Peterson understands the important role that a hospital plays in the well-being of the community it serves. She is mission-driven and has hands-on community relations experience. Throughout her career, she has demonstrated her commitment to excellence in patient care through strategic partnerships with the American Heart Association and other notable organizations. Lara Khouri

Chief Strategy Officer - Children's Hospital of Los Angeles

Lara Khouri is senior vice president and chief strategy officer of Children’s Hospital Los Angeles and the Children’s Hospital Los Angeles Medical Group. In this role, she works with the hospital and its physicians to develop a system of care for children in Los Angeles and beyond. This includes the development and performance management of the hospital’s primary care and community provider network and associated governance structures. Khouri has responsibility for Strategic Planning; Health System Development and Integration; Government, Community and Business Relations; and the Program for Global Health. Previously, Khouri was executive director of the Boston Children’s Hospital Integrated Care Organization and senior director of Integrated Care at Boston Children’s Hospital. In both roles she oversaw the implementation of accountable care delivery, including quality and cost performance measurement and improvement, as well as development and implementation of integrated care models and value-based payment models. Prior to her work in Boston, Khouri was the founding program director of the Healthy Weight Program at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. She has been a lecturer in health policy and management at Columbia University’s Mailman School of Public Health since 2004. She is a member of Women in Health Administration of Southern California and was honored by this organization as Woman of the Year in 2016. Khouri earned a Master of Business Administration and a Master of Public Health from Columbia University; she has undergraduate degrees in geography and economics from George Washington University.

Dr. Michael Nduati, M.D., M.B.A, M.P.H., is chief executive officer of UCR Health and associate clinical professor of health sciences and senior associate dean for clinical affairs at the University of California, Riverside School of Medicine. He is also hospitalist at Riverside Community Hospital. Nduati has a variety of responsibilities within the medical school. As CEO, he is responsible for the strategic development and growth of UCR Health, the medical school's clinical enterprise, and serves as the physician executive leader of the medical school's faculty practice. Prior to his appointment as senior associate dean, he was co-director of the school's Longitudinal Ambulatory Care Experience (LACE) program and director of hospital medicine for UCR Health. He received his bachelor's degree in biomedical sciences from UCR, then went to UCLA to earn his M.D. from the David Geffen School of Medicine and a Master of Business Administration from the Anderson School of Management. After graduating, he did his internship and residency at Kaiser Permanente Fontana before earning a Master in Public Health from the Harvard School of Public Health. Nduati, who is board certified in family medicine, is chair of the Academic Practice Forum for the California Medical Association and on the Board of Councilors for the Riverside County Medical Association.  He is also a member of the American Medical Association, the Society of Teachers of Family Medicine, and the American Academy of Family Physicians. While an undergraduate, Nduati co-founded the student-run African Americans United in Science at UCR, an organization that he continues to work with today. Matthew Jenusaitis

As chief of staff for UC San Diego Health, Matthew Jenusaitis leads key initiatives in support of operational and strategic priorities to advance the organization’s mission and vision. He serves as an executive liaison with the chief executive officer to provide management oversight and coordination of programs, initiatives and special projects, as well as deal with challenging situations and resolve problems. Additionally, Mr. Jenusaitis leads the enterprise-wide Project Management Office (PMO) to enhance performance management by improving operational efficiencies and reducing costs across UC San Diego Health. Mr. Jenusaitis also is the chief of innovation and transformation. In this role, he spearheads UC San Diego Health’s new technology integration strategy and leads the integration of new and innovative technologes designed to improve efficiencies, reduce costs, and improve the quality of care and patient experience. Mr. Jenusaitis brings to this position more than 25 years of medical device industry, start-up and institutional investment experience focused on organizational growth, commercialization and operations. As a global life science executive, he has extensive expertise in the following clinical areas: cardiovascular, neurovascular, peripheral vascular and gastrointestinal interventional. He also has experience in both domestic and international management, sales and marketing, new product development, and non-profit fundraising, operations and management. Before joining UC San Diego Health, Mr. Jenusaitis served as the president and chief executive officer of OCTANe, an Orange County non-profit organization focused on sparking innovation, starting new medical and high-tech companies, and creating jobs. OCTANe’s accelerator program LaunchPad helped early-stage companies raise more than $700 million in capital and created more than 3,500 jobs in the region. Prior to OCTANe, Mr. Jenusaitis worked for the private equity firm Warburg Pincus, first as an executive-in-residence building their portfolio of medical device companies, and later as president of ev3 Neurovascular, one of their portfolio companies. ev3 was sold in 2010 to Covidien, then subsequently to Medtronic. Mr. Jenusaitis spent 15 years at Boston Scientific Corp., most recently in the position of president of the $600 million Peripheral Interventions Division (formerly Medi-Tech), leading the acquisition and integration of Cryovascular Systems, Inc. and EndoTex, Inc. Before that, he held executive marketing and management positions in the Microvasive Endoscopy, International and Scimed Life Sciences divisions. Carolyn Rhee

Director of Correctional Treatment Building Project - Former CEO of Olive View- UCLA Medical

Carolyn Rhee has worked in the Los Angeles County Department of Health Services for over 37 years in various capacities. Early on, she was a budget analyst, and then moved to Olive View-UCLA Medical serving as assistant administrator, chief operating officer, and chief executive officer for 8 years. She has been responsible for the move transition of two DHS hospitals: Olive View in 1987, and LAC+USC Medical Center in 2008. In the role of project director, she and her team were responsible for the patient move, staff move, ordering of equipment, staff training, working with the project team (contractors, architects, Public Works, CEO office), operational improvements, space allocation, and many other activities. She also has experience with several other DHS capital projects. She is currently Director, Correctional Treatment Building Project, a 3,885 bed facility which will provide various health services to LA County’s incarcerated population. This is a $2.2 billion project with several components of 2 million square feet. The facility will the first of its kind and size in the United States. Carolyn has volunteered for the American Cancer Society for 31 years, serving at the local, state, and national boards. She is also on the board of the Health Care Interpreter Network, and has served on the Executive Leadership Team for the American Heart Association Heart Walks. As a fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives, she is on the board of Health Care Executives of Southern California as is the diversity chair for 2017.

Bryan Lewitt is a Senior Vice President for CBRE in the Downtown Los Angeles office. He serves as CBRE’s Southern California Practice Leader for the Healthcare Services Group in Greater Los Angeles. Dr. Hofu Wu is an architect, designer and building scientist. He is the founder of Wu+ Architects and Professor with tenure in the Department of Architecture at Cal Poly Pomona. He specialize in integrated sustainable design with advanced technology to achieve NZE building performance. His recent research on healthcare facility planning and design becomes an integral part of the new healthcare initiative of the department. Dr. Wu is a fellow of the American Institute of Architects and public board member of the AIA 's Pasadena-Foothill chapter. He has taught building science and design studios at Cal Poly Pomona since 1990. He has authored numerous technical papers and research reports funded by government, utilities, and private companies. He has served in servel technical committees of ASHRAE that generate standards for building energy and system performances. He is also the departmental Taiwan International Exchange program coordinator and is an honorary Chair Professor of Architecture at NTUST. Alicia Wachtel

Alicia Wachtel, LEED GA, is a Principal in the Los Angeles office of HOK. Since joining the firm in 1999, Wachtel has served in the roles of Project Director and Regional Healthcare Practice Leader. Director Healthcare Architecture + Design - Herman Miller Healthcare

Mr. Call is a registered architect and is currently Director, Kaizen Architecture, for Herman Miller Healthcare. He is responsible for guiding the strategic direction for the application of continuous improvement lean initiatives within healthcare and for research partnerships. During his previous 30 years with Herman Miller, he has had responsibilities for healthcare marketing, product management and leading the healthcare architecture and design initiatives. Prior to joining Herman Miller, Mr. Call was employed in private architectural practice with CRS of Houston, HOK of St. Louis, and The Architects Collaborative of Cambridge, MA. He has a Bachelor of Architecture degree from Rice University and a Master of Architecture from Washington University, St. Louis. He is a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives, the American Institute of Architects, the Academy of Architecture for Health, where he is a past president, the Clinical Laboratory Management Association, the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists and is a LEED Accredited Professional by the U. S. Green Building Council. Andrew Fogg

Partner - Cox, Castle & Nicholson

Andrew is a member of the firm's Land Use and Natural Resources Team. Andrew has extensive experience in representing developers in the land use entitlement process and related areas, including all aspects of planning, zoning, and environmental review, in cities and counties throughout California. Andrew has spent over 15 years representing developers and public entities in processing administrative land use actions, including the negotiation and approval of numerous entitlement documents, development agreements, owner participation agreements, disposition and development agreements, subdivision approvals, conditional use permits, variances, and zoning and general plan modifications related to various projects. Andrew has been actively involved in a myriad of projects, including urban infill mixed use projects, master planned communities, residential and commercial condominium developments, commercial centers, and industrial developments. Andrew has also worked extensively with clients developing projects located in redevelopment areas and subject to California's Community Redevelopment Law. Andrew has advised numerous clients regarding issues related to the elimination of redevelopment agencies by the State of California in conjunction with the 2011 state budget act, and compliance with post-redevelopment obligations, including issues related to the continued enforceability of existing obligations and compliance with agency reporting obligations. As part of his entitlement practice, Andrew has advised clients on all aspects of the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA), including ensuring the adequacy of project specific Environmental Impact Reports and Mitigated Negative Declarations under CEQA. In addition to representing developers in the entitlement process, Andrew has defended projects that have been challenged under CEQA and other California planning and zoning laws in both state and federal courts. In addition to Andrew's legal practice, Andrew is a leading voice on land use related policy issues. Andrew has co-chaired the Los Angeles Economic Development Corporation's (LAEDC) State and Local Policy Committee since its inception in 2011. This Committee has taken the lead on a number of important economic development issues facing Los Angeles County, including preservation of the California Enterprise Zone law, reforming CEQA, and preservation of job-producing land uses in the County. Andrew's Committee undertook an initiative to streamline and facilitate on-location filming by bringing together all interested stakeholders, including the California Film Commission, local jurisdictions, studios, and labor, to develop a new statewide Model Film Ordinance and related Best Practices. The California Film Commission adopted the Committee's work as the new model for the state, and a number of local jurisdictions have implemented the ordinance and best practices into law. Prior to joining the firm, Andrew spent several years as an in house counsel at a Fortune 500 global biotechnical company, where he provided legal support on land use and real estate matters for the company's locations world-wide. Prior to working in house, Andrew was an attorney in the real estate, land use, and appellate groups with a major Los Angeles based law firm where, he represented developers and public entities in land use and related matters. In law school, Andrew served as Senior Research Editor for theUC Davis Law Review and following graduation, Andrew clerked for the Honorable Dean D. Pregerson in the Federal Court for the Central District of California.

Fernando Villa

Fernando Villa is a partner in the firm's Los Angeles Office. His practice focuses on land use, environmental law, local government matters, and real estate dispute resolution. He represents clients in land use entitlement, California Environmental Quality Act, and local government law matters involving a broad scope of entitlements for a variety of development projects, including mixed-use, industrial, residential, retail, master-planned, and commercial developments. Fernando also represents clients in federal and state environmental cost recovery actions such as those under CERCLA, RCRA, and the California Hazardous Substance Account Act, and toxic tort litigation involving claims for real property damage arising from alleged hazardous substance disposal. Concentrating much of his practice on Brownfield development projects, Fernando combines his environmental, land use, real estate, public agency law, and litigation expertise to entitle his clients’ development projects and help them manage environmental risks. Laurie McCoy

Laurie McCoy is a Los Angeles-based architect and healthcare futurist at NBBJ, recognized as the world’s second-largest healthcare architecture firm. Throughout her 32 year career, Laurie has led the design and construction of innovative academic medical centers, medical office buildings and outpatient facilities for clients such as Loma Linda University Medical Center, UCLA Health, Kaiser Permanente and Dignity Health. Peter Becronis

Peter Becronis is a founding Partner of Inception Property Group, the result of a 2016 merger between Becronis’s healthcare focused development and advisory firm, Wembley Realty Advisors, and Matar Pacific, a healthcare development firm lead by Adam Matar. Inception Property Group, with offices in downtown Los Angeles and in the Pacific Northwest, currently manages a development pipeline of over half a billion dollars, including development of a 297,000 square foot outpatient healthcare hub in Downtown Los Angeles, and which has been featured in The Wall Street Journal and on the front page of the Los Angeles Business Journal, among other media coverage, as well as currently developing Oregon’s largest pharmaceutical manufacturing facility. Peter managed Apex’s development of an 80-unit multifamily luxury apartment building in Downtown Los Angeles through groundbreaking, a 17-provider build-to-suit medical clinic for Arrowhead Regional Medical Center, and several pad retail developments. Peter also oversaw Apex’s commercial tenant improvements for tenants including General Electric, Sakura, Strapack and others. Prior to Apex Realty, Peter managed the operations of Asbury Properties (1991-2001), a private real estate syndicate invested in commercial and multifamily properties, where Peter lead Asbury’s internal asset management and leasing operations. In the 1990’s, Peter was elected to two terms of office on the City of Los Angeles’ Community Development Agency’s Project Area Committee for the Westlake/Pico-Union areas, service as Vice Chairman and Secretary.
