Pittsburgh Multifamily Boom

Since joining Trammell Crow Company’s Pittsburgh Development Team in 1998, James has been responsible for managing development and construction activities in Western Pennsylvania, West Virginia and Ohio. As Senior Vice President of Development, he manages all phases of the development process including: due diligence, budgeting, scheduling, design, permitting & approvals, contractor selection and construction management for each project. With his ability to evaluate development and construction options quickly and accurately, James guides clients toward their declared real estate objectives while maximizing their investment value.

Frank oversees onsite management staff handling daily operations of collegiate housing communities. He originally joined EdR in 1984 and advanced to manager of several communities before leaving in 1997 to assume similar roles with McKinney Properties and College Park Communities, advancing to regional manager. He rejoined EdR in 2005, serving as regional manager and advancing to regional vice president in 2012. Since rejoining EdR, Frank has provided leadership and guidance to properties we manage for ownerships at various locations throughout the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education (PASSHE), including Bloomsburg University, California University of Pennsylvania, Clarion University and Lock Haven University. Frank has also performed similar functions in the state of Maryland at Salisbury University and Johns Hopkins Medical Institute. He holds a bachelor of science degree from West Virginia University as well as accredited residential manager (ARM) status through the Institute of Real Estate Management.

Christopher Doerr, managing director, joined Walker & Dunlop Investment Sales group in November 2015. Mr. Doerr will be responsible for the origination and execution of investment sales and equity capital raise for multifamily assets in the Mid-Atlantic and will be based out of the Bethesda, Maryland office. Prior to joining Walker & Dunlop, Mr. Doerr served as a senior managing director for five years at Cushman & Wakefield where he worked with the owners of institutional real estate providing disposition services for multifamily properties and land in the Washington, D.C. area as well as joint venture structuring, recapitalization, and equity placement. Before Cushman & Wakefield, Mr. Doerr was vice president of multifamily investments for Grubb & Ellis. Mr. Doerr holds a juris doctorate/MBA from the University of Richmond and a BBA from James Madison University. Beyond the Company, Mr. Doerr is a member of the DC Real Estate Group, Urban Land Institute, National Multi-Housing Council, and the Virginia Bar Association.

Nathan's SunCap responsibilities include sourcing and managing the firm's capital resources through lender relationships. In this capacity, he has overseen the financing of over $750MM of commercial development and also oversees SunCap's analyst team with responsibility for due diligence, underwriting, credit analysis and financial modeling. Due to his background in multifamily, Nathan also plays a critical role in due diligence, design, budgeting and marketing for SunCap’s apartment developments. Prior to joining SunCap, Nathan was a partner with McKinney Properties and was primarily responsible for the acquisition and asset management of value-add student housing and multi-family properties. While at McKinney, Nathan and the business development team completed multiple value-add acquisitions totaling over $300 million. Before joining McKinney in 2003, Nathan was a Real Estate Officer in PNC Bank's West Coast Group where he was involved in over $800 million of construction, repositioning and mezzanine loans and over $250 million in corporate revolving credit facilities and term loans.

Bryan Donaldson serves as a Senior Advisor for SVN | Three Rivers Commercial Advisors specializing in multi-family housing and investment office sales. With 18 years of professional experience in the real estate industry, he is an invaluable asset to his clients. Bryan uses his knowledge of the Pittsburgh real estate market and his transactional expertise to advise his clients on their disposition and acquisition strategies. Ethan Fellheimer has been active in real estate acquisition and development for over 10 years. In 2000, Fellheimer founded The Fellheimer Group which was responsible for the development of the former Bookbinders Building at South 15th Street, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Other significant Philadelphia area development/acquisition deals include: 1401 Walnut Street, The Shops at Lasalle University, 211 North 13th Street, The Essex Condominiums at 300 North Vine Street, among others. Prior to engaging in real estate full time, Mr. Fellheimer spent seven years as Senior Vice President of Pennsylvania Business Bank as a commercial lender and Head of Marketing. Fellheimer was selected as one of the Philadelphia regions "40 under 40" young business leaders and in 2000 received Philly Tech Magazine's "30 under 30" award. Mr. Fellheimer remains active in the business community of Philadelphia, and is often a lecturer at universities and the Pennsylvania Bar Institute regarding entrepreneurial endeavors, networking, and legal issues of debtor/creditor law. Fellheimer serves on the Board of Directors of Albert Einstein Healthcare Network and Jewish Federation of Greater Philadelphia. He received his undergraduate degree from the University of Pennsylvania and received his law degree from Temple University School of Law. He lives in the suburbs of Philadelphia with his wife and two children.

Curtis is the president of Kossman Development Company, a vertically integrated organization that provides the full range of services for any design/build project in the challenging field of real estate development. For over 24 year, Curtis has participated in the architectural design, construction, lease negotiations, property management, and financing of the company-owned properties in Pennsylvania, Ohio, Arizona, Indiana, and Kentucky. Property development and management include hotels, shopping centers, office buildings, flex warehouse and industrial buildings. In addition, Curtis is responsible for site, office and retail commercial property acquisitions. He is also the founder of Provident Charter School in Troy Hill which is designed for children with dyslexia and other language based learning disabilities. He received a B.S. from Carnegie Mellon, School of Civil and Environmental Engineering with a minor in Architecture. Curtis is an avid skier and loves to ride dirt bikes.

Harris Heller is a Managing Director at Hunt Real Estate Capital, a subsidiary of Hunt Companies. Mr. Heller originates Hunt Real Estate Capital’s full range of debt products for multifamily and other commercial assets nationwide. He has expertise in all Fanni Mae, Freddie Mac, and FHA executions, in addition to expertise in Hunt Real Estate Capital’s proprietary fixed and floating rate loan programs. Mr. Heller joined Hunt Real Estate Capital in July 2017 to open a new production office in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania focusing on originating business in the Mid-Atlantic region of the United States. Prior to joining Hunt, Mr. Heller was a Managing Director-Loan Originations at Greystone & Co., where he sourced a wide variety of commercial real estate deals, including agency, FHA, CMBS, and proprietary multifamily bridge loans. Before that, he served as a Managing Director with RAIT Financial Trust, where his primary responsibilities were to source CMBS loans, proprietary floating rate loans and mezzanine debt across all major commercial real estate asset classes. Earlier in his career, he held positions at Bond Street Capital, CIBC World Markets and Madison Realty Group, Inc. Mr. Heller has been involved in more than $1.5 billion of commercial real estate debt and equity transactions. Since 2013, he has originated over $500 million of commercial real estate debt. Mr. Heller has a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Pittsburgh.

Peter has 10 years of experience in commercial real estate finance and significant experience with Fannie Mae’s debt products as well as FHA, CMBS, and bridge debt executions. Prior to joining Bellwether Enterprise, Peter was a Director with Red Capital Group. While at Red, Peter underwrote more than $400 million of Fannie Mae DUS loans for conventional multifamily, affordable housing and seniors housing. Peter also served as a senior underwriter for over $2.5 billion of Fannie Mae fixed and variable credit facility transactions for some of the nation’s largest public and private real estate firms. He served as underwriting project manager on one of the largest Fannie Mae transaction, a $1.35 billion acquisition loan for 25,000 units in 2008.

Cynthia Kamin, a designated CCIM and Senior Vice President in the CBRE Investment Properties Group, is widely recognized as a leading investment properties expert in the disposition of office, multifamily, retail and industrial properties. With over 25 years of real estate experience, she has represented a wide range of clients including financial institutions, developers, REIT’s, pension fund advisors and private capital investors. Her extensive transaction experience includes portfolio, institutional, private capital, tax- exempt bonds, development, and tax deferred 1031 exchange transactions. Her expertise is in understanding the capital markets, negotiating and structuring transactions, as well as financial underwriting and developing market strategies for investment properties. With a strong focus on multi-family investments, she has represented numerous owners in the disposition of their investment properties including student housing, affordable housing, senior housing, and market rate housing and has completed transactions totaling over $2 billion. Ms. Kamin also served as past president on the Board of CREW (Commercial Real Estate Women) and served as a Board Member for HEARTH, an organization that changes lives by providing temporary housing and education for homeless women and children.
