The State of San Francisco Healthcare

Ron Groepper is Senior Vice President and Area Manager for Kaiser Permanente in Greater San Francisco, the service area encompassing San Francisco and South San Francisco medical centers. Groepper has held this position since 2015. Previously, he served as the Senior Vice President and Area Manager for the Sacramento service area. Prior to joining Kaiser Permanente in 2011, Groepper was the Chief Operating Officer of Tenet-Creighton University Medical Center, in Omaha; President of Wheaton-St. Joseph Medical Center, in Milwaukee; and Executive Vice President/Chief Operating Officer, Hospital Sisters-St. John’s, in Springfield, Ill. He holds an MBA from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, and he began his career as a registered nurse at St. Luke’s Health Services-St. Luke’s, in Sioux City, Iowa. Groepper currently serves on the Hospital Council of Northern & Central California and the San Francisco Center for Economic Development.

Dr. Vitka Eisen is the President and Chief Executive Officer of HealthRIGHT 360, a network of Federally Qualified Health Centers and one of the largest providers of behavioral health services to marginalized Californians. With over 30 years of experience in human services, Dr. Eisen has dedicated her career to supporting people and communities struggling with addiction and incarceration through the provision of integrated, compassionate, and relevant care. Since being appointed to her current role in 2010, Dr. Eisen has led HealthRIGHT 360 through a series of mergers, growing the organization to serve over 36,000 people annually. A frequent speaker on innovative clinical and business practices, Dr. Eisen serves on the boards of directors of the National Council for Behavioral Health, the California Association of Drug and Alcohol Program Executives, and the California Council of Community Behavioral Health Agencies. Dr. Eisen earned an M.S.W. from San Francisco State University, and a Doctorate from the Harvard Graduate School of Education. She is a person in long term recovery from substance use disorder; having participated in treatment over 30 years ago at the agency she now leads.

Mr. Gentry leads business development at View Dynamic Glass. He has been a successful marketing and business development leader for more than 20 years. Prior to View, Mr. Gentry ran product, marketing and services at Enlighted, a leader in building IoT products. Prior to that, he was the founding CEO of Adura Technologies, one of the first commercial wireless lighting control products for commercial buildings, which was sold to Acuity Brands Lighting in 2012. He has also been a business development leader at SunPower, Robertson Stephens, Bear Stearns, Presidio Financial, and John Hancock Financial. Mr. Gentry obtained his MBA and BS degrees from UC Berkeley.

Melinda Lin is a Senior Associate with DGA, Inc. in San Francisco. Her 19 years’ healthcare experience on both the Owner’s and Architect’s sides of the table allows her to bring a unique and balanced perspective to strategic and facility planning projects. She is particularly regarded for her ability to interface among strategic, capital, clinical, and facilities planning – helping clients turn data into decisions in complex projects. Prior to joining DGA in 2016, Melinda served in the business operations unit with Stanford Health Care, working on strategic and capital planning projects where her area of specialization was project transition planning and building activation. Prior to Stanford, she spent three years working with Kaiser Permanente primarily in medical equipment planning. A results-oriented Project Manager and Planner, Melinda has worked with some of the leading design firms in the country. Her project experience includes hospitals, health centers, clinical and research laboratories and Medical Office Buildings. Melinda is valued for her organizational and analytic skills. She has a passion for healthcare planning and the improvement of facilities to provide positive patient and caregiver experiences.

Mr. Jobe received his JD and MBA degrees from the University of Southern California, where he served on Law Review. He earned his undergraduate degree from Loma Linda University. He is licensed to practice in California and Oregon. Prior to becoming General Counsel for Adventist Health, Mr. Jobe was in private practice, specializing in the acquisition, disposition, leasing, and financing of commercial real estate. He also counseled clients in the areas of nonprofit organizations and closely-held entities (corporations, partnerships, and limited liability companies). Early in his career, Mr. Jobe was in-house real estate counsel at Federated Department Stores (now Macy’s). As General Counsel for Adventist Health, Mr. Jobe oversees the legal activities for a faith-based, nonprofit integrated health system serving more than 80 communities on the West Coast and Hawaii.

Ryan Ware is the VP of Construction for One Workplace in the Bay Area and oversees all aspects of the business and operations for the construction company. Ryan’s focus is on developing a subcontractor business model that focuses on a design assist approach, to insure proper implementation of interior offsite construction solutions. Ryan joined One Workplace in May of 2018 to lead the construction team and has structured a preconstruction team and construction team. Prior to joining One Workplace Ryan was the National Preconstruction Specialist for DIRTT Environmental Solutions, manufacturer of offsite interior construction assemblies. Ryan’s focus with DIRTT was transforming the language of the subcontractors partnering with DIRTT and DIRTT employees across the county to better align with the construction industry and defining preconstruction process for integrating offsite solutions. During this time, Ryan worked with a CSI specialist to develop a new specification for DIRTT to fall within Division 13 Special Construction (13 42 73 Integrated Interior Assemblies), and to submit approval for new specification numbers to be added to Master Format to better align with an integrated offsite construction solution (13 42 00). From 2013 to 2016, Ryan worked in Columbus, OH building a DIRTT partner team in that market. Ryan also practiced architecture for 8 years with M+A Architects, in Columbus, OH and also 6 years prior with other firms in both Ohio and North Carolina. He is a graduate of Kent State University School of Architecture with a BArch and BS in Architecture. Ryan began his career in offsite construction where he worked in the drafting department for a precast fabrication company in his hometown of Marietta, OH.

George Hurley leads DPR Construction’s Healthcare Core Market and has over 35 years of experience in the engineering and construction of major healthcare projects. His extensive background and technical expertise in project evaluation, financial management, scheduling, and strategic planning has led to the successful execution of many large-scale projects. George is passionate about executing projects utilizing integrated project delivery (IPD), incorporating building information modeling (BIM) and Lean construction principles. Since joining DPR Construction in 1997, he has helped change the way large projects are set up and executed. Most recently, he served as Project Executive on Stanford Children’s Health Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital Expansion. George earned a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Montana State University and is a U.S. Green Building Council LEED® Accredited Professional. George is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) Golden Gate Chapter, the American Society for Healthcare Engineering (ASHE), and the Society for College and University Planning (SCUP).

Mary H. Rose is a Shareholder in both the firm’s Health Care Group and the Insolvency and Financial Solutions Group. In addition to healthcare and business transactions, she has extensive experience in bankruptcy, insolvency, lending and creditors’ rights matters. In the healthcare area, Ms. Rose represents hospitals and lenders to hospitals and other healthcare businesses. She has handled a broad variety of healthcare transactions, including hospital acquisitions, loans and debt restructurings, factoring of healthcare receivables, and general corporate and real estate matters. Ms. Rose’s bankruptcy and insolvency experience, spanning a variety of industries, includes representation of asset purchasers, lenders, creditors’ committees, individual creditors, and debtors in bankruptcy and reorganization cases, out-of-court debt restructurings and liquidations. She also represents both lenders and borrowers in secured and unsecured credit facilities, loans and debt restructurings, secured transactions, and accounts receivable factoring transactions.
