Ada M. Healey directs all real estate strategies for Vulcan Inc. and oversees over $2.0 billion in real estate assets including the redevelopment of nearly 60 acres in Seattle’s South Lake Union neighborhood. Vulcan has delivered several million square feet in new office, life science, residential and mixed-use projects with an additional million-plus in development and pre-development stages. Healey is a leader in the development of integrated transportation systems and was instrumental in the passage of legislation for the South Lake Union Streetcar. Under Healey’s direction, Vulcan has earned widespread industry recognition and honors for its innovative development approaches and commitment to sustainability. Prior to joining Vulcan, Healey worked for nearly 10 years at ING Clarion, holding positions in asset management, acquisitions and portfolio management. Previous experience includes several years at NYNEX Properties (now Verizon Communications) and time in the insurance industry with the Sedgwick Group, London and Metropolitan Reinsurance Company in New York. Healey holds a B.A. from Duke University and an M.B.A. from New York University’s Leonard N. Stern School of Business.

Tom is a co-founder of Madrona and is active on several portfolio company boards. Tom has also served on the boards of numerous public and private companies and is a director of Amazon.com on which he has served since before it went public in 1997. Tom serves on the technology industry boards TechNet Northwest and the Washington State Technology Alliance. He was formerly a member of the National Advisory Council on Innovation and Entrepreneurship. He is also on the Investment Committee of the Seattle Foundation. Ranked number 12 of the 35 most influential business leaders in the Seattle area by Puget Sound Business Journal. “The most difficult part of my job? Measuring my enthusiasm for every idea I hear. There are a lot of exciting ideas out there.” PAST LIVES Immediately prior to co-founding Madrona Investment Group in 1995, Tom served as president of public companies LIN Broadcasting Corporation and Executive Vice President of McCaw Cellular Communications, Inc. Previously, he was chair of the Executive Committee and Partner in the Northwest’s largest law firm, Perkins Coie, where he was principal counsel for The Boeing Company, Alaska Airlines and a number of early technology companies. Before that he was an attorney with Cravath, Swaine & Moore in New York. He is past chair of the Washington State Technology Alliance and the Discovery Institute, past chair of the Pacific Science Center and past president of Intiman Theater in Seattle. He was co-chair of the capital campaign for the Computer Science and Engineering Department’s new building at the University of Washington. LESSONS LEARNED “Not every investment has been a home run. You learn something from each investment, and you apply it to the next one. If you don’t invest in a Home Grocer, you’ll never invest in an Amazon.com. Our ability and willingness to take risks has made us who we are today.” EXTRACURRICULAR In addition to being an avid sailor, Tom joined forces with celebrated winemaker Mike Januik to build the Novelty Hill Januik winery in nearby Woodinville, WA. He was also one of the principal participants in the development the Four Seasons Hotel in downtown Seattle. EDUCATION A graduate of Ballard High School in Seattle, Tom attended Harvard College, where he graduated cum laude. He then received his law degree from Columbia Law School where he was an editor of the Columbia Law Review.

Over the past six decades, Martin Selig has turned his two person company into a billion dollar enterprise. He’s built his business (and much of the city) from the ground up, and he’s not stopping anytime soon. So what’s his secret to doing business? Martin won’t tell, but some might say it’s the structure of his company: everything comes back to him. Where some developers have boards, partners, and commissions, Martin and Martin alone is at the helm of his ship. This enables him to make quick decisions and never keep people waiting. His advice to any aspiring entrepreneurs? Do it how he did: Jump in the deep and and see if you can swim. While most people are either creative types or number gurus, Martin is an anomaly: he’s a creative spirit with billionaire business sense. His door is always open, and if his team needs anything, they need only enter his corner office with glass walls and a bird’s eye view of the city he’s built. Compared to other commercial real estate companies, he adds, his team has a lot more fun. Martin’s favorite project is always his current project, and he’s happiest when there’s a hole in the ground, on its way to becoming the next addition to Seattle’s skyline. He’s also an artist and art connoisseur. He’s made many contributions to Seattle’s art scene, from the giant popsicle statue outside his property on 4th and Blanchard, to “Adam” by Fernando Botero outside the old Federal Reserve Building, to the John Henry “Songbird” Sculpture at 5th and Yesler, to the Barbara Hepworth “Three Obliques” at 645 Elliott, and the list goes on. Martin got into the real estate business in 1958 because “he didn’t trust the stock market.” His team likens him to The Wizard of Oz and Walt Disney: someone with unparalleled imagination who’s unafraid to think outside the box. If he has a goal, he won’t stop until he’s achieved it. They say the reason for the company’s success is easy: it’s Martin. There’s only one Martin Selig. Though Martin has called the Emerald City home for his entire life, he wasn’t born here: he and his family escaped Nazi Germany in 1940 by sneaking onto the Trans Siberian Railroad. They travelled through Europe and Asia by train, then boarded a boat bound for San Francisco from Japan. When their ship entered Elliott Bay the mountains were out and the sun was shining, so on a whim, his family ended their journey in Seattle. This place is Martin’s home, and he’s been here ever since. In his spare time, he enjoys riding motorcycles, skiing, and painting.

John is one of the founding partners and the Chairman of Cairncross & Hempelmann, a full-service Seattle law firm. He has over 40 years of experience as a land use, natural resources and real estate development attorney. He has worked extensively to help form the legislation that governs Washington’s land use law. John assists clients with real estate development projects, including their land use, zoning and environmental matters, and with their natural resource permit processes. A major focus of his work is helping clients develop transit- oriented communities around the region’s rapidly expanding light rail system.

The entrepreneur spirit runs deep for Marc, from his first venture with childhood friend Jay Mezistrano to his current position as CEO of JayMarc Homes, Marc loves overseeing a company where his team loves where they work. Marc and Jay have created a company (JayMarc Homes) that builds luxury and custom homes on Seattle’s Eastside. Brian founded Madrona Financial in 1999 as a Registered Investment Advisor Representative, currently serving as the owner of Madrona Financial Services, Madrona Funds, LLC, and Bauer Evans Inc. P.S. He serves as Chief Investment Officer, lead planner, and senior portfolio manager. Brian also hosts a weekly radio show on KTTH 770 AM, KRKO 1380 AM, and KVI 570 AM, is a nationally published author and has been a regular guest on CNBC and Fox television. Brian was honored to ring the bell on the NYSE. Brian’s career began in accounting upon completion of his bachelor’s degree from Washington State University, where he graduated Summa Cum Laude. Following graduation he earned his CPA designation and eventually became owner of Bauer Evans, Inc. P.S. Over the years as a CPA, he developed expertise in personal and business tax, estate and trust planning. Brian became interested in finance, seeing the financial world through the eyes of a CPA, founding Madrona Financial in 1999. He continues to maintain his role at Bauer Evans as President of the Company and also serves as Portfolio Manager for the Madrona Funds.

Jennifer Forschler, MAI has appraised complex commercial real estate throughout Puget Sound and Northern California. Her areas of expertise include: Highest and Best Use Studies, Market Analysis, and Mixed-Use Appraisals. The bulk of her appraisal work has focused on apartment valuation, but she has additionally valued hotels, industrial properties, offices, retail centers, ground leases, and subterranean rights, among other commercial property types. She received her BA in economics from Wellesley College, with additional coursework at Babson College and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. She is a sustaining member of the Junior League and enjoys giving back to our community.

Recognized as the marketing strategist behind many of the Pacific Northwest's most respected real estate projects over the past 20 years, Dean Jones applies his executive skills to the region's global real estate brokerage Realogics Sotheby's International Realty as Owner & CEO. As a former developer, his firm T. Jones, Inc. was honored nationally with "Development Firm of the Year" by the Pillars of Industry in 2001 and Dean was named "Marketing Director of the Year" in 2003 by the National Association of Home Builders. As an advisor to third-party developments, his firm Realogics, Inc. was the catalyst for more than $1 Billion in project sales earning his many clients 130 sales and marketing awards. Today he oversees a collective of more than 225 real estate brokers in four branch offices, which consistently rank amongst the top-producing brokerage offices in the markets that they serve. In 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2016 Realogics Sotheby's International Realty was awarded among the "Fastest Growing Private Companies" in Washington State, according to The Puget Sound Business Journal and while boutique, the full-service brokerage is ranked in the top ten largest in Puget Sound. Dean remains a regular contributor to local and national media and is an active member of industry organizations such as the Urban Land Institute, the Downtown Seattle Association and the Asian Real Estate Association of America among other philanthropic interests. Given his passion for international business, Dean is also on the Board of Directors for the Washington State China Relations Council.

Josh Henderson is an award winning chef and founder of Huxley Wallace Collective – a group of restaurants, experiences and unique spaces in the Pacific Northwest. Properties he has founded and led from concept to execution include: the Skillet Group, a highly successful enterprise consisting of three restaurants, a catering company, two food trucks and multiple nationally distributed food products; the nationally acclaimed Westward, a contemporary “water inspired” restaurant and bar located on the shores of Lake Union; its sibling Little Gull Grocery, a 22 seat oyster bar and “to-go” grocery; and local favorite Quality Athletics, a full service sports bar and restaurant located in Seattle’s Pioneer Square. Known as a visionary and food entrepreneur, Josh received the Star Chefs Rising Star Award in 2009, was named the most influential person of 2010 by Seattle Magazine, and was recognized in Puget Sound Business Journal’s 2012 top 40 under 40. Josh’s restaurants have received local and national acclaim including a James Beard nomination in 2014. As President | Chief Executive Officer of Abbott Construction, Troy is responsible for leading the company in providing an exceptional construction experience for our customers, business partners, and employees. After a successful start to his career working with other prominent nationwide construction companies, Troy has held a variety of management positions since joining Abbott, ranging from project engineer, project manager, regional director of California, Chief Operating Officer, to his current role. Having worked and lived in Los Angeles and Seattle, Troy is familiar with the unique characteristics and business environments that define each of the three regions along the West Coast where Abbott concentrates our business. He has been involved with many different types of work, including projects for clients such as Adventist Health, MultiCare Health Systems, Providence Health & Services, Prime Healthcare, Baxter Pharmaceutical, Universal Studios, Whole Foods Market, The General Service Administration, and County of Los Angeles. Outside of work, Troy enjoys an active lifestyle in the Pacific Northwest along with his wife and two daughters.

Based in our Seattle office, Josh leads business development and operations as Vice President Regional Manager for our rapidly-expanding portfolio in the Pacific Northwest. He has directed the sales and marketing strategy for communities throughout the West Coast and works to foster communication between developers, marketing, sales and third-party vendors. Josh brings an unparalleled 18+ years of experience in real estate and a thoughtful, holistic approach to every development he manages.

Scott Johnston leads the Johnston Training Group programs that enable technical professionals to present powerfully, write purposefully, and facilitate seamlessly. In addition, he leads the JTG Selection Panel research, conducting in-person interviews with selection panel members from numerous public and private organizations. As a principal at JTG, he has helped A/E/C firms at every stage of the process differentiate themselves and win more work—from early proposal creation to the final project interview. Scott has spoken at the Society for Marketing Professional Services, American Council of Engineering Companies, and National Association of Women in Construction events.
