Hal Ferris
Hal Ferris founded Spectrum Development Solutions in 2008, a real estate development and advisory firm which specializes in community focused development including mixed use, mixed income urban real estate development. Sustainable development principles have always played an important role in our work, and with the introduction of the LEED rating system, our projects have achieved ratings from certified to platinum with more recent projects achieving higher ratings. The firm’s experience includes developing; mixed use, adaptive reuse, affordable, market rate, and student housing, laboratory buildings, community health centers, and a variety of retail uses. Financing solutions have included Public Private Partnerships, Historic, New Market and Low Income tax credits, tax exempt bonds, FHA insured and traditional debt and equity. Notable projects include The Publix, a historic adaptive reuse and new multifamily housing, University of Washington West Campus Student Village, an urban student housing, mixed use community, Uwajimaya Village, Center for Urban Waters in Tacoma, Meridian Center for Health, a community health center and Anthem on 12th , a mixed use workforce housing development. Hal has developed over 10,000 beds of student housing for 10 Public and Private Universities in the Pacific Northwest. Hal serves on the advisory board for the ULI Terwilliger Center for Housing, Co-Chair of the ULI DEI Task Force, member of the Housing and Livability Advisory Committee for the City of Seattle, Vice Chair of the Seattle Housing Levy Oversight Committee, board member of Forterra Enterprises, Board member and past Chair of ULI Northwest, past Chair of the Bellevue Planning Commission, and a board member of several regional and national not for profit, affordable housing development organizations. Prior to founding Spectrum, Hal was a partner with Lorig Associates and a partner in WG Clark Construction. Hal earned a B.S. in Civil Engineering from the University of Washington, and an MBA from the University of Portland.
