DAY 01: Keynote Roundtable (Part 1): The Future of the Data Center: Automation & Sustainability. Charting the Course to What’s Next
The data center as it stands today is a hyper-evolving medium – with massive advances in critical technologies. As automation and sustainably grow in focus by technology industry stakeholders, significant questions remain: what is our industry doing to invest in and build that future? What does the journey look like?
9:15 AM
10:00 AM
Rack Power Density/Capacity and the Cooling Challenge
What is the future trend of power density to the server rack. Up? How high? When? According to the Uptime Institute’s Global Survey of IT and Data Center Managers, published mid-year 2021, average server rack density has nearly quadrupled in under a decade, from a 2011 low of 2.4kW at the rack to 5.6kW by 2017, then to to 8.4kW in 2020. Other estimates show peak demands to 16kW and, with increasing frequency, to 20kW/rack. Will 20kW be the “new normal” for hyperscale? How good are we at truly sensing, monitoring, and analyzing thermal management operational/health data? What are the impacts on uptime availability, resiliency, sustainability, and power costs of ever-higher power densities and cooling requirements? OpEx? CapEx?

DAY 01: Market Dynamics: The Challenges of Dense Markets, But Are There Even Alternatives?
With Northern Virginia on pace to soon become the world’s first 2GW data center market, the demand is showing no signs of slowing down. The region is home to over 250 data centers and with more under development. What are the challenges and risk factors of operating and developing in a very dense and highly demanded market? How are various stakeholders impacted? Are investors and developers actively exploring other markets and regions, or are they adjusting their approach on how to develop in a constantly growing dense market with no sign of slowing?
11:15 AM
12:00 PM
DAY 01: As the US FedGov Continues its Move to the Cloud, are you FedRAMP Ready?
The US government now spends $7B on cloud, $3B of which is SaaS. The Federal Risk and Authorization Management Program (FedRAMP) is how a company wishing to provide cloud solutions to Federal agencies gets to do so. It provides a standardized approach to security assessment, authorization and monitoring. Can and do colo operators or PaaS players help smooth the FedRAMP authorization journey?

DAY 01: Utility Power Reliability, Resiliency, Innovation and Sustainability
Increasingly frequent regional weather catastrophes, and with the power now a clear part of digital infra, how is the industry planning and readying for even greater uptime availability and resiliency? In February, 2021, three unprecedented winter storms with sustained freezing temperatures knocked out power, paralyzing most of Texas for an extended period. This massive outage in one of the top global data center markets left operators scrambling to ensure uptime availability, business continuity, disaster recovery, and provide demand-response capacity. Such extreme events are revealing power grid vulnerabilities in many. What is the US mission-critical data center industry learning from the Texas experience? How do large regional utilities and power grid operators plan for this extreme weather “new-normal.” What is the state of on/site renewable power? Clean back-up power? What have data center operators – captains of the global digital transformation economy – learned from the Texas grid freeze experience that needs to be shared?
2:00 PM
2:45 PM
DAY 01: How are Enterprise-Class Owner/Operators Responding to Accelerating XaaS?
With the rapid growth of public and hybrid clouds and the applications that run on them, enterprises are asking themselves bigger and more complex questions. Should they develop larger footprints into colocation environments and wind down their enterprise owned facilities to gain access to ecosystem rich service providers? How much does sustainability tie into their decision making process? Are their legacy facilities sustainable? What are enterprises trying to achieve in their next major compute deployments?
2:45 PM
3:30 PM
DAY 01: Is Digital Infrastructure Now a New Hybrid Investment Class?
Has the data center shifted from what was clearly a CRE asset class to a hybrid CRE and Infrastructure class? Does capital formation now shift just as the government has now acknowledged the Internet as national infrastructure.

DAY 02: With Continued Steep Upward Velocity Ahead for Data Growth, What Shifts Will the Data Center REITs and Investors See in their Forecasts?
In times of great change lie great investment opportunities. With the consolidation of the data center-dedicated REIT, what changes can we expect next? What will mission-critical focused private equity funds and lenders see as opportunities in the velocity of data growth that shows no sign of abating? What new advanced technology trends are they watching for new development opportunities? And where?

DAY 02: Keynote Roundtable (Part 2): The Fast-Changing Scales and Dynamics of Sustainable Digital Infrastructure Development
From the micro half-rack and modular at the edge to megascale hyperscale cloud, every stripe, color and configuration of the data center critical environment is undergoing both growth and change, as a result of the steep data growth across all sectors. What are the trends and the drivers at play? While it is true that digital transformation will very likely help decarbonize the economy and society, the data center at every level needs work at decarbonization, both for operational electrical power (Scopes 1,2 of the GHG Protocols), and in design/build development the embodied carbon (Scope 3). Much of this sustainability effort will have to do with how we implement AI-enabled IoT performance analytics and predictives for operational availability, efficiency, and overall systems health, all within a context envelope of sustainability rather than an after-thought. Realtime reporting, single-pane-of-glass visibility, all stakeholder transparency. No foolin'!

DAY 02: The Digitalization of Human Capital
As the data center industry grows, so does the need to hire more skilled workers. However, with a chronic workforce problem and the 'Great Resignation' serving as head-winds for the industry, how are these challenges being addressed? Like it or not, one of the factors that could, and will, limit the growth and equity of the industry is human capital. How can this major hurdle be mitigated? Is automation the solution?

DAY 02: The Pre-fabricated Modular Data Center –You’ve come a very Long Way, Baby!
The Pre-fabricated Modular Data Center –You’ve come a very Long Way, Baby! It may have been a rock-strewn path that the pre-fab modular critical facility has had to walk. But its time is now most-definitely here. And the use cases are both compelling for growth and fascinating! Quite nearly everything about Data Center 4.0 favors a robust pre-fab future. From hyperscale to cell tower Edge sites - you name it, and there’s pre-fab modular at the ready.

DAY 02: What's Next For Infrastructure Management and Operations?
Performance monitoring, measurement, and management of critical environments is now a mature technology market. So, what’s next for it to take on? A decade-and-a-half in, more or less, what have infrastructure and operations managers learned on how to become (more) lights-out, smart, remote-hands facilities? What are the latest guidelines from ASHRAE and how might they augment future infrastructure requirements? What’s next?
1:45 PM
2:30 PM
DAY 02: Green Design and Build: Fact or Myth?
If sustainability and energy efficiency is not part of your current mandate, then you are part of the past. However, with closer examination and analysis, it appears that claims of efficient sourcing and construction are overstated. What type of impact are tech giants and data center developers actually having? Are you truly able to design and build an energy efficient data center which addresses Scopes 1,2 and 3 of the Carbon/GHG Protocols? Are we developing best-practices fast enough?
