Bisnow Bosses: A Minute With Houston Market Manager Kim Schell
Bisnow proudly presents a new series called “Bisnow Bosses” focused on introducing you to the men and women building Bisnow and your business in your local market. Our mission is to inform and connect you to do more business, and our Bosses take it seriously!
Here’s a quick chat with Kim Schell, Bisnow’s Houston market manager. We spoke with Kim about Whataburger, the challenges that come with having to park more than 300 cars and being in the path of a tornado.

Who are you?
I am a blend of New York-born sass mixed with Texas sweetness from my years spent in the South. I am also a proud mom of two boys and I love spending time with my family, watching comedies, reading about true crime and eating crawfish.
Actually, I am downplaying my love of crawfish — it’s an addiction!
Why Bisnow and why CRE?
I have been working in advertising for 22 years, 18 of which I’ve spent focused on commercial real estate. I love the industry’s fast pace and the impact commercial real estate has on every aspect of a city.
I was drawn to Bisnow because of the energy and entrepreneurial spirit of the team. Everyone is working together toward the same goal. I am surrounded by amazing people every day.
What is your most insane experience at Bisnow so far?
I was working at an event in Downtown Houston and right before 300 attendees were set to arrive, we realized our valet had never arrived.
We were stuck in an absolute panic trying to figure out how we were going to park hundreds of cars with only minutes to spare. Luckily, we were able to find a last-minute fill-in valet service right before Bisnow Vice President Greg Cox had to step in and start parking cars himself.
What’s the worst job you’ve ever had?
My first job was at a Whataburger in high school where I worked for a few weeks until I was "laid off.”
They let me keep my very 1980s-style orange and brown polyester uniform and said they would call me when the store got busier. I am still waiting!
Do you travel often?
Most of the traveling I’ve been doing for the past few years has been to see my sons play baseball. I have two sons, and both of them are on traveling Little League teams and we venture to towns all over the country for their games.
Not long ago, we traveled to Franklin, Texas, for a tournament. Franklin is a great old Texas town with buildings from the 1940s and we really enjoyed being there, but just days after we left a tornado destroyed half the city.
We weren’t there when it happened, but it was still scary that we barely missed such a major disaster.
Do you have any hobbies or interests outside of CRE?
I spend most of my time working or with my family, but if I had more time I would love to foster dogs. I currently consider myself to be a failed dog foster parent because every time I attempt to foster a dog for a few months, I end up adopting it instead. That’s how I have ended up with three rescue dogs.
Where will you be 10 years from now?
Hopefully, I will still be doing what I love, which is developing strategic marketing opportunities that help businesses grow.
