The district will be anchored by Tempo at White Oak, Marquette’s luxury rental development that is nearing completion, according to the company. Tempo at White Oak will have 304 units with four “live-work” units for residents who operate a business from home, the press release states.

This will be one of the only live-work developments in the Houston area, according to the news release.

Residents are expected to move into the building at 2623 Keene St. later this year. Tempo at White Oak will also have retail space on the first of its six floors.

The Houston Planning Commission also approved Chicago-based Marquette Cos.’ proposal for a one-story, 20K SF commercial development in the 2600 block of Keene Street, the company announced Monday.

The development will be south of Little White Oak Bayou and Houston’s White Oak Music Hall, a 5-acre, three-stage indoor/outdoor live music venue that opened in 2016.

“The White Oak District is emerging as one of the city’s hottest destinations with existing attractions like the White Oak Music Hall, H-Town Brewing and Woodlands Social bar and restaurant, among others,” Chris Yuko, managing director of development at Marquette, said in the news release. “We are meeting demand for new rental, restaurants and retail.”

The White Oak District will be a four-block by six-block pedestrian-friendly zone at Keene and Main streets near Houston’s Woodland Heights. Marquette hopes to attract bars, restaurants and coffee shops to its 20K SF development, which could open as soon as 2025.
