Skanska Tops Out 1550 On The Green Downtown Office Project
Skanska has officially topped out 1550 on the Green, a 28-story, 375K SF office building adjacent to Discovery Green.
The construction company celebrated the milestone Wednesday with Norton Rose Fulbright, the tenant that will anchor the Class-A downtown office building. The project should be completed by the end of the year.
“1550 on the Green has been designed and built with sustainability at its core, and there’s no better place for the greenest office building in Houston than in Discovery Green,” Matt Damborsky, executive vice president for Skanska USA Commercial Development’s Houston market, said in a news release.
Norton Rose Fulbright is expected to relocate its existing Houston office to the building at 1550 Lamar St. upon completion.
The building’s location will encourage street-level activity downtown, forgoing connections to the tunnels traditionally used by office workers in the Central Business District. 1550 on the Green will feature 7K SF of ground-floor retail space with extra-wide pedestrian zones under a canopy of trees.
Tenants will have access to a fully equipped fitness center and an outdoor terrace on the 12th floor. On level 28, an event space with an outdoor terrace will bring wide views of surrounding greenery.
1550 on the Green is part of a three-block master plan by Skanska, designed by Bjarke Ingels Group. It will be BIG’s first office project in Texas and is expected to achieve LEED Platinum certification.
BIG completed the master plan for the area in early 2020, working alongside Central Houston, Discovery Green, Bike Houston, the Kinder Foundation and several commercial real estate brokers, Bisnow previously reported.
Skanska purchased the land parcel in October 2019 and broke ground on the project in June 2021.
