Don't Let Texas Businesses Get Taxed Out of Town
The call for equal and uniform property appraisals is one of the most talked about issues of the 84th Texas legislature. While the Texas Constitution requires equal and uniform taxation, commercial properties across the state have experienced rapid, unpredictable property appraisal increases over the last few years without proportionate reductions in tax rates. Houston commercial properties underwent an average 53% increase in valuations in 2013, and another 18% in 2014. This has placed an unnecessary burden on commercial tenants, small businesses and residents. This should not be the way Texas does business. Houston BOMA and Texas BOMA urge business leaders to contact their state legislators and demand meaningful property appraisal reform. Don’t let our businesses get taxed out of town.
