Gilley's Developer Announces Plans For Hotel In La Porte
Houston's Worley Commercial Brokerage Services finalized plans for a 125-room, full-service hotel at La Porte Town Center, future home of Gilley’s Family Entertainment Center. Worley is in talks with a 3.5 to 4-star hotel, but no additional details were provided, reports the Houston Business Journal.
The $55M mixed-use project being developed by Western Spherical Developers is centered around the rebirth of the world famous Gilley’s Club, centerpiece of the Houston classic Urban Cowboy. Once billed as the world’s largest nightclub, it was destroyed by a fire in the '80s. Mickey Gilley, the iconic Texas country legend that operated Gilley's Club, is directly involved in the development. There’s nostalgia for the '70s all across Houston, mostly for the oil prices. [HBJ]
