Four-Alarm Fire Burns Massive Warehouse To The Ground
This morning, a four-alarm fire broke out at Custom Packaging and Filling Co around 10:50am in the 1700 block of Laverne in Spring Branch. 175 firefighters and 64 trucks are fighting the blaze. Making things worse, the Houston Fire Department has no idea what's in the building as the company has failed to provide material data safety sheets, reports the Houston Chronicle. Officials on the scene have reason to believe chemicals are burning in large capacity. To ensure their safety, firefighters have pulled back and are battling the inferno in defensive mode.
As a precaution, all students at nearby Spring Branch Elementary were evacuated by bus to Don Coleman Coliseum. Officials are urging residents in the area to stay inside, close all windows and doors and turn off air conditioning units. [Chron]
