Houston Developer Picks Up Prime Parcel Near Ship Channel
Avera Cos acquired a 41.7-acre site at the entrance to the Houston Ship Channel. The parcel, HMS 850, is near both the Barbours Cut and Bayport container terminals. Kirby Inland Marine, a division of Houston-based Kirby Corp, will be the first tenant at HMS 850, utilizing an area approximately 700 feet by 2,000 feet to provide mooring for 76 barges, according to the Houston Business Journal. Newmark Grubb Knight Frank's Rob Stillwell and Doug Nicholson repped the unnamed seller.
Avera plans to use the land to “help accommodate the rapidly increasing need for barge fleeting and deep water terminal space,” Avera CEO Trey Odom said in a statement. [HBJ]
