Port Of Houston Sees Significant Increase In Shipping Activity
Houston's port has seen a sizable spike in activity for the first quarter of 2017.
In Q1 2017, 271,182 containers have been shipped out of the Port of Houston, a 17.7% increase from the same time period last year. Inbound container activity increased even further, a 26.5% leap, according to a Colliers International report obtained by the Houston Chronicle.
Even with that increase, leasing activity is reportedly down in the port area to 3.6M SF this past quarter, compared with 6.7M SF over Q1 '16. However, Colliers expects the strong shipping numbers to boost activity over the rest of the year.
