The Astrodome Is Saved!
Harris County Commissioners voted unanimously this morning to move forward with the $105M renovation of the Astrodome. The first phase, the $10.5M project that got the green light today, is the first step towards adding 1,400 parking spaces. One-third of the funding will come from the county's general fund collected from property taxes, another third comes from hotel taxes, with the final portion coming from parking revenue, reports the Houston Chronicle.
The decision may come as a surprise to many, who thought the Eighth Wonder of the World doomed when voters rejected a $217M bond proposal to renovate the aging giant in 2013. Avoiding the wrecking ball in Houston is proof yet again that the Astrodome is a wonder of the world. [Chron]
