So You Want a Romantic Night Out?
The kids have gone to camp; that leaves mom and dad free to work and play at will. Here’s a couple of ideas of quick one- or two-day staycations to relax and enjoy those few child-free days.
Treat your significant other to some shopping at The Galleria for a before look at the $30M renovation of the luxury wing, which includes an additional 110k SF of retail space (slated for a spring 2016 completion). Mall owner Simon is planning a $250M investment into improving the mall. Then go around the corner for a romantic evening at the Royal Sonesta (the first Sonesta hotel in Texas; a second one—Sonesta Bee Cave Austin—opens July 5.) The hotel completed an almost $30M renovation last spring. Signature features include one of the city’s largest meeting and event spaces, which hosts a lion’s share of the city’s high-profile galas, one of Houston’s only Les Clefs d’Or concierges and one of the most multinational and multi-lingual staffs.
Want to go a little farther from home? Head to The Woodlands for a concert at the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion, which is one of the top amphitheaters in the country. Steely Dan and Elvis Costello will appear on July 18 or maybe you prefer Kid Rock and Foreigner? They’re appearing July 22. You can also do some more shopping in the upscale Market Street area. Once you’re done, hit the Hyatt Market Street, which just celebrated its fifth anniversary. The 70-room boutique hotel has just been tapped as the first Houston-area hotel to take on Hyatt's Centric brand. If you’re thinking of moving to The Woodlands, Hyatt Market Street has a “Fly It Before You Buy It” special that incorporates a helicopter tour of the area and its neighborhoods.
