Today's Throwback Thursday is courtesy of The Woodlands Development Co—here's George Mitchell on Oct. 19, 1974. That's the day The Woodlands opened and home sales began. (Houses started at $49,999.) It was all possible thanks to a $50M loan guarantee from the government under the Housing Act of 1970. It's a diamond for the program because it's the only project under the act that didn't default on its loans.
