Controversial 'Ashby High-Rise' Receives Foundation & Sitework Permit
Yesterday, crews were spotted working at 1717 Bissonnet, future home of the controversial "Ashby High-Rise," a name given to the project by local opponents. Spurred by reports of activity on-site, Swamplot uncovered a site work and foundation permit issued by the city for the 23-story residential tower. According to an email from Buckhead Investment Partners, the developer firm is just keeping permits active, and the site work is "just general maintenance."
Of course, any sign of work on the tract is sure to stir things up. The project's lengthy legal battle is on its third Houston mayor, becoming a focal point of new rules for developing buildings in Houston. Recently, a state appellate court ruled in favor of the developers, allowing the project to move forward after reversing a ruling awarding damages to nearby residents. [Swamplot]
