Making Way for Capitol Tower
The Houston Club Building is no more. DH Griffin imploded the 18-story facility Saturday morning, a process that took about 30 seconds. Of course, that was followed by hours of clean up to get the streets reopened, and debris removal on the site will last through year-end.
Skanska’s team had already removed all exterior brick and windows, as seen in this photo with real estate development manager Sean Murphy and development director Benjamin Llana the day before demolition. The firm had also done full asbestos abatement; this phased approach to demolition is more costly but safer and more sustainable. Overall, 85% of the building materials will be diverted from landfills.
