Lawsuit Saves Former Chronicle Building-For Now
Theater Square LP, an entity affiliated with Linbeck Construction, filed a lawsuit against Heart Newspapers and the Hines-controlled entity that owns the former home of the Houston Chronicle at 801 Texas Downtown.
The suit claims it has an agreement signed in 2007 with Hearst that Theater Square owns easements through the basement of the former Chronicle building for the purpose of tunnel development. Theater Square claims Hines' demo plans would wipe out the underground space where it has easement rights.
Theater Square isn't seeking to save the building, just protect its rights with a court-ordered injunction to temporarily halt the demo, reports the Houston Chronicle. The Chronicle's old home is likely still destined to become rubble, though the ensuing legal battle could significantly push back the date. [Chron]
