Janitors Union Protestors Who Crashed Bisnow Event Come To Agreement With Employers
At Bisnow's recent event, The Future Of Downtown, attendees were surprised to see a small group of activists handing out fliers about the conflict between the Service Employees International Union and office-cleaning companies including ABM, GCA, ISS and Pritchard.
The state of the office market has building operators and managers in a cost-cutting mood. With janitorial contracts set to expire, operators were looking to cut wages and exclude union members outside the 610 Loop in contract negotiations, the Chronicle reports.
The union representing 3,200 janitors was planning a strike if concessions were not made. The buildings will remain spotless now that both parties have agreed to significant raises and paid sick days after 20 hours of negotiation. [Chron]
