Bagby Street Avoids High-Water Mark
Memorial Day flooding left good chunks of Houston underwater, but Bagby Street managed to escape unscathed.
That's thanks to a strategic redesign that will be expanded to other streets, says Midtown Houston manager of capital projects Marlon Marshall. Walter P. Moore and Design Workshop led the development efforts focused on increasing walkability, minimizing ongoing maintenance and reducing flooding.
The project is the first Greenroads-certified project in Texas (similar to LEED certification) and incorporates cool pavements, recycled materials and wayfinding. Next on the docket for the management district is redeveloping Brazos Street, and it got a $4M TxDOT grant to reconstruct Caroline Street. [HBJ]
