Baybrook Mall Grows
Baybrook Mall is already the largest shopping center in Southeast Houston, but it’s about to expand significantly. (Just like diamonds and Kanye West's ego, it can never be too big.) General Growth Properties’ Colin Moussa tells us it’s adding 555k SF to the existing 1.2M SF center, making room for 30 more retailers, 10 restaurants, and entertainment/hospitality venues. Colin says quite a few restaurants and retailers have finalized leases, and more are in the process. Construction will begin in May and finalize for the 2015 holiday season.
The expansion includes a 285k SF lifestyle center between Forever 21 and Dillard’s and a 270k SF power center. It’ll also add a football field-length grassy lawn in the center to serve as a community gathering spot, a unique feature for a Houston-area mall. Colin says Houston’s a booming economy, and the team doesn’t foresee any development challenges. Baybrook Mall is a JV between GGP and landowner CDC Houston.
