Last night residents of the Heights voted in favor of Proposition 1, allowing beer and wine sales in the dry neighborhood for the first time. The decision was made by 10,393 residents who live in the dry area eligible to vote on Prop 1. According to the the Harris County Clerk, 64% of voters were in favor of the measure.

H-E-B backed the effort to overturn the ban with more than $60k, according to the Houston Chronicle. The grocer said if the measure passed, it would pursue the acquisition of property on North Shepard. The successful vote bookends a busy week for H-E-B in Houston, which broke ground on a new location in Baytown and submitted plans for another on Washington Avenue.
