Local Foods Plans Fifth Location In Growing Empire
Houston restaurateur Benjy Levit has a hit on his hands. The fifth location of his fast-casual sandwich chain, Local Foods, will fill in one of the spots at the biggest retail project in The Heights, Heights Mercantile at 714 Yale, Swamplot reports. The third Local Foods opened this year in Tanglewood, with a fourth on the way Downtown at 420 Main. Benjy, who also operates his namesake restaurant, Benjy's, plans to open a new Local Foods every six to 12 months.
Part of his success is his understanding of Houston. As a longtime Houston restaurateur and a keen market watcher, Benjy understands the market better than most. 609 Main was a major reason for Local Foods' move Downtown. "The building abuts the new Hines project. And it's a block from their new office building and two blocks from Market Square," he told the Houston Chronicle.
Each Local Foods is unique. The Tanglewood location features a wood-burning pizza oven and expanded wine list. The Downtown location will feature an extensive bar. You can be sure Local Foods' Heights location will offer its own unique flare. [Swamplot]
