Energy Efficient Student Housing Hits LEED Platinum
In the competitive housing market, a sustainable property is a major perk for well-informed college students. Sterling Burbank achieved an Energy Star HERS Score of 57, making it 43% more energy efficient than a new standard apartment home and 73% more energy efficient than an existing apartment. Humphries was the architect and Kudela & Weinheimer provided landscape services. Sterling Burbank has plenty of bells and whistles at the green property as well. The complex is within walking distance to campus and includes a lazy river, amphitheater, putting green, pool, 24-hour gym, lab with Macs and PCs, and a tanning bed.
Sterling Burbank, a five-story, 695-bed community in Baton Rouge, achieved LEED Platinum and recognized by the USGBC as the largest LEED for Homes Platinum certified student housing project in the country. Developer Dinerstein’s sustainable design manager Don Brooks tells us there are a ton of green features throughout the building including ergonomic unit plans, water saving features, recycling and bike racks to minimize the building’s carbon footprint.
