Who Needs Cars?
Employees of Perkins+Will celebrated their fourth annual “day without a car” event. Pictured are five of the six pros who biked to work—Filo Castore, Lea Anne Leatherwood, Mollie Silver, Derek Blumer, and Diego Rozo. (Not pictured, Brandy Goffinet.) Another nine employees ditched their automobiles for METRO light rail or carpools. (Frankly not enough people still use roller skates.) Diego created the event four years ago, inspired by European cities that promote similar events several times a year. The second year, he reached out to the Mayor's office and synched his firm's event with the City's Bike to Work day. Now Diego's event has expanded to all tenants of 1001 McKinney (the historic City National Bank Building where Perkins+Will offices); property manager Hines helped get the word out. He's looking even bigger—next year, Diego plans to encourage other buildings and companies to participate.
