The son of Jewish American real estate developer, David Simon started out at First Boston before serving as Wasserstein Perella’s VP. In 1990, David joined his father’s company—Melvin Simon & Associates—as their CFO. Three years later, the company went public as Simon Property Group in a $1B IPO, the largest real estate stock offering ever at the time.
David became the company’s CEO in 1995, and a chairman in 2007. The company owns or has an interest in more than 325 properties and 241M SF in North America and Asia and employs more than 5,000 people worldwide. A member and former chairman of the National Association of Real Estate Investment Trusts (NAREIT) board of governors, David is also former trustee of the International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC) and has received numerous industry honors.
