50 years ago, Donald Bren took out a loan to build a beach house and is now one of the wealthiest real estate moguls in the US. He quickly rocketed into designing communities, including the 10,000-acre development that would become Mission Viejo, CA. Donald spent nearly 30 years taking over Irvine Co, buying out all his partners by 1996.
Now, with more than 110M SF across SoCal, including 500 office buildings, 40 shopping centers, 50,000 apartments, three hotels and many golf clubs and marinas, Donald has his eyes on Silicon Valley. When finished, his Santa Clara Square Offices will be a booming 1.7M SF mixed-use development. His Irvine Co also has a 97.3% stake in Manhattan’s MetLife Building. In his spare time, Donald engages in conservation efforts and the arts in Orange County.
