Sanford Diller

Sanford Diller’s Prometheus Real Estate Group owns more than 12,000 apartment units and retail and office space across California, Oregon and Seattle.

Sanford received a law degree from University of San Francisco before he started getting into real estate in the mid-1960s. Besides founding Prometheus Real Estate Group in 1965, Sanford manages properties for Northwestern Mutual Life and Sobrato Development. In addition to the 1,600 apartments in Google’s HQ city of Mountain View, Prometheus owns more than 800k SF of office space in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Sanford and his wife Helen (who just passed away last year) donated $35M to UCSF in 2003 for cancer research. They were also very active in promoting Jewish causes in the Bay Area, including giving a $1.5M endowment to help fund USSC’s Jewish studies program.
