Though the bulk of Kelcy Warren’s wealth has been made in the energy pipeline business, his more modest real estate investments earn him a spot on this list. Warren co-founded pipeline firm Energy Transfer Equity and built his fortune off the Barnett Shale formation in North Texas.
In 2008, Warren bought the 20,000-acre Lajitas Resort and town of Lajitas in Texas’ Big Bend region out of bankruptcy for $13.5M. In his hometown of Dallas, he donated $10M in 2012 to build the famed Klyde Warren Park. As part of the donation, Warren’s now-teenage son, Klyde, must help clean the park once per month. — Scott Klocksin
