N obody can say for certain their current role in real estate will still exist in a few years' time. The world has seen periods of immense change before, but real estate is still catching up with societal shifts from a decade ago. In this environment, plotting a course for the industry is hard.

With that in mind, Bisnow gathered together a group of up-and-coming stars in the real estate world, all part of the ULI Europe Young Leaders group, to chew over the future of real estate. They are the people who will be leading the companies of the future, so their views represent the trends of tomorrow.

The evolving role of technology in transforming the built environment — including in mitigating environmental impact, improving construction methods, enhancing transparency in project management and seamlessly meeting occupier requirements — dominated the conversations.

The group shared their views on the evolution of real estate itself, noting the sector is moving further toward a platform model and an increasingly prevalent service focus, particularly for investors, developers and asset managers.

The interviews also covered the skills that are essential for success in real estate and the new roles that will emerge — and those that will disappear — in future as the sector continues to transform.

ULI Europe Young Leaders group has seen a 68% increase in membership, rising to 1,128 over the last two years.

ULI’s Young Leaders programme is open to professionals in the early stages of their career under the age of 35, providing a forum to network with peers, benefit from the experience of senior industry professionals, continue professional education and development, and work effectively as an identifier of future talent.
