Liverpool To Get Its Own 'Covent Garden-Style' Food And Flower Hub
Work has begun on Liverpool’s new £7M fruit, vegetable and flower market. Gillmoss Council is building the 65K SF food hub with the potential to expand it onto adjacent property the council owns.
The area is a hive of regeneration activity with a potential warehouse and logistics hub slated, and the former market site in Edge Lane is set to be developed into a new headquarters for Merseyside Police, including a new vehicle repair facility.
The Edge Lane scheme and food hub are being built by Willmott Dixon, whose other Liverpool projects include the Archbishop Blanch School, Archbishop Beck Sports College and Notre Dame Secondary School.
The food market development will be complete in November 2017 and following a period of fitting out by the traders, will open early in 2018.
