Amazon UK To Launch Fashion Label
Amazon UK plans to launch its own fashion label and has poached M&S and Primark veterans for the initiative, according to Drapers. Frances Russell, former womenswear director at M&S, was hired as vice president of clothing at Amazon and has been on a six-month recruiting spree from department stores. Primark’s menswear buying director, Glen George, has also joined the fledgling fashion label.
The new development promises to shake up the fashion industry in the same way Amazon’s entry into grocery stores is changing that industry. The retail juggernaut has been busy over the last 12 months launching its first brick-and-mortar store as well as deepening its commitment to grocery stores and causing a ruckus with one-hour delivery drones and flying warehouses.
The clothing label could launch as early as this spring.
