Hammerson Shopping Centres Sign A Flurry Of Post-Brexit Leases
UK shopping centre giant Hammerson shrugged off any Brexit concerns with a slew of post-referendum lettings in its London and northern projects.
Shoe brand Sketchers, Superdrug and The Perfume Shop will all open at the Brent Cross Centre, according to the Evening Standard.
At its £165M Victoria Gate development in Leeds, the company signed shoe specialist Russel & Bromley, and quintessential English luxury leather brand Aspinal of London signed a lease for a 1,500 SF unit that will be the company’s northern flagship store.
In addition to the new tenants, the shopping centres are seeing increased footfall from—wait for it—Pokémon Go. The company has begun placing lures in its shopping malls, attracting virtual Pokémon and thus players. The company also deploys teams with portable battery chargers in two of its London shopping centers, according to the Financial Times.
The company boasts 26 “pokéstops” and 7 “gyms” to lure in players of Pokémon Go, who seek to catch Pokémon in a virtual reality environment via their mobile phones. [ES]
