The Future of Century City

Ken Kahan is Founder and President of California Landmark (or "CLG"), a real estate development and investment company. Since its inception in 1988, California Landmark has invested in or developed all types of real estate from residential (including single family as well as low and high rise multi-family) to commercial (including hospitality, office and industrial). The company has developed in excess of 3,000,000 million square feet of various products. CLG has distinguished itself in Southern California as an innovative problem solver in both the design and development of dozens of multi-family communities. The firm is currently one of the largest private multi-family developers in Los Angeles with over 500 units in various stages of construction or development. Current projects include three high profile mixed use projects including the bw (Wilshire at Barrington), the hw (Hollywood Blvd. near Crescent Heights) and the LC (Larchmont at Melrose and Camerford). Past projects include modern townhomes and industrial "hard" lofts in the Marina Arts District, high-rise condominiums along the Wilshire corridor, California courtyard buildings in Westwood and Brentwood, art deco apartments in West Hollywood, and Mediterranean style villas in Century City. In the past ten years CLG has expanded its footprint of residential acquisitions by purchasing existing apartment communities throughout Southern California. Projects include townhouse condominium projects converted to rentals, middle income apartments in San Diego, renovations of 1950's apartment buildings in the San Fernando Valley and most recently, low income housing in the San Gabriel Valley. At the same time, the firm has expanded its portfolio to include industrial, office and flex space projects totaling several hundred thousand square feet. Ken is passionate about all aspect of urban planning and development. He is a frequent speaker on matters pertaining to entitlements, zoning, multi family/mixed use projects and urban development. California Landmark has been involved in the City of Los Angeles implementation ordinance of SB1818 and has delivered several mixed income housing projects throughout the region. A native of Los Angeles, Ken obtained both his bachelor of arts and juris doctor degrees from UCLA. Ken currently resides in West Los Angeles with his family.

Nadine Watt is CEO of Watt Capital Partners. Nadine brings over 25 years of real estate expertise and an entrepreneurial drive to her position, where she oversees day-to-day activities and strategic planning for all commercial investment activities including acquisitions, development, and asset management for the company’s 6 million- square-foot portfolio. Previously, Nadine served as President of Watt Companies. In 2011, she led a strategic reorganization of the company that moved the firm beyond traditional property management and leasing to a focus on acquisitions and real estate development, as well as joint venture opportunities. Nadine played a key role in launching Watt Companies’ acquisition division – Watt Investment Partners – that now actively invests $60 million in a variety of property types across the Western United States. Throughout her 20-year tenure at Watt Companies, Nadine has touched all facets of the company’s operations, including the development of thousands of apartment units and numerous shopping centers. Nadine was also responsible for a widely celebrated multi-million-dollar renovation program at Watt Plaza, a 920,000 square foot, Class-A office building in Century City. The building was certified Platinum LEED and was recognized by BOMA International with an award for Outstanding Building of the Year. Nadine was recently inducted as the President of the University of Southern California Board of Governors and serves as Vice-Chair of the Lusk Center for Real Estate, as well as on the USC Associates Board of Directors. She was the first woman to be named Chair of the Los Angeles Business Council, a position she held for 7 years and is now the immediate past chair. She is a Board Member of Fisker Inc. (FSR) chairing the Compensation Committee, Visionary Women, and the City of Hope Los Angeles Real Estate & Construction Industries Council. Nadine received the Century City Citizen of the Year award in 2017 and the EY Entrepreneur of the Year award in 2018. Nadine has also been the subject of a spotlight piece in the Los Angeles Times highlighting her career path and business success. She has also previously held Board Positions on two other publicly traded companies, The New Home Company (NWHM) and 1 st Century Bank. A graduate of Georgetown University School of Foreign Service, Nadine also holds a Master of Arts degree from the School of Cinematic Arts at the University of Southern California. Nadine currently resides in Beverly Hills with her husband Andrew Jameson and their two daughters, Keira and Reese Jameson.

Susan Bursk is the President & CEO at Century City’s Chamber of Commerce. Prior to this position, Susan went to Woodbury University and graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in business and interior design. Susan worked as the Chief Field Deputy for Los Angeles City Council District 5. She then attended Academy, the Western Association of Chamber Executives and began working at the Century City Chamber of Commerce.

A name partner of the firm, Anton N. Natsis is Chair of Allen Matkins’ Real Estate Department and is one of the top real estate attorneys in the United States. His practice focuses on development, leasing, purchase and sale, and portfolio investment sales transactions involving office, retail, and industrial projects, as well as arbitrating numerous fair market value disputes, CAM disputes and other significant landlord/tenant disputes. He also has extensive experience in debt, equity, and joint venture workouts, and the purchase of distressed assets and distressed debt. Tony is continually sought out by some of the largest national land owners, such as J.P. Morgan Asset Management, Blackstone Real Estate, Brookfield Properties, HCP, Vornado Realty Trust, Regent Properties, The Irvine Company, Boston Properties, Equity Office Properties, Kilroy Realty, Inc., Beacon Capital Partners, MPG Office Trust, Kamehameha Schools (The Bishop Estate) and Westfield Corporation. He represents many governmental entities, including the LAUSD, State of California, and City of Anaheim. Tony is also frequently retained as counsel for major national office tenants, such as AT&T, Citicorp, the FDIC, AIG, The Walt Disney Company, and the Los Angeles Times. A frequent lecturer and author, Tony is the chief consultant for the California Continuing Education of the Bar Commercial Leasing Series, the legal education reference book on leasing for California attorneys, is an adjunct professor of law at Loyola Law School for a course covering commercial real estate transactions, and has spoken before such national real estate groups as ULI and BOMA. Tony is a founding board member of The Ziman Real Estate Center, which is governed under the joint auspices of the UCLA Anderson School of Business and the UCLA Law School. In the past decade, Tony has closed commercial office leases exceeding 50 million square feet. He has worked on real estate purchase contracts with a total consideration of more than $30 billion and on development transactions with a total consideration in excess of $25 billion. Since 2006, Tony has represented clients in office building portfolio investment sales transactions involving over $75 billion of consideration. One of Tony's most significant transactions is the largest real estate acquisition deal in the history of the United States. He provided extensive real estate services in connection with Blackstone Real Estate's purchase of Equity Office Properties Trust, at that point the largest owner of office space in the U.S. other than the Federal Government, for $43 billion. Subsequently, Blackstone contracted to sell over 50% of the properties it purchased with such sales closing in the first and second quarter of 2007. Tony assisted Blackstone in its acquisition due diligence related to EOP and the subsequent sales of the properties. The transactions related to this deal included Maguire Properties' purchase of Blackstone/EOP in Orange County for $2 billion, Irvine Company's purchase of Blackstone/EOP in San Diego for $1 billion, Morgan Stanley's purchase of Blackstone/EOP in San Francisco for $2.5 billion, and Beacon Capital Partners’ purchase of Blackstone/EOP Seattle for $6.3 billion.
