BASCOM'S FINK, SL'S SADICK AT BMAC WEST
We've worked hard to put together a great line-up of speakers for BMAC West (Bisnow Multifamily Annual Conference), this Thursday at the Montage Beverly Hills. (Sign up here.) One of our experts, The Bascom Group managing partner Jerry Fink, tells us the company just recapitalized The Breakers (above), a Class-A 1,523-unit multifamily property in Denver; the deal included buying out an existing partner. The Irvine-based private equity investment firm looks to acquire up to 6,000 apartment units this year throughout the West. It's off to a great start--the firm has completed close to $1B worth of transactions (including some dispositions) this pastyear, with the Phoenix area being particularlyactive.Recently, Bascom closed on the 352-unit TheFairways in Chandler, Ariz. Jerry is a busy dad with five daughters who are getting black belts in tai kwon do, as well as as a "die hard Wisconsin Badgers fan."
We also chatted recently with SL Residential VP Greg Sadick, who oversees operations as well as strategic planning, business development, and client relationships. SLR is under construction on a project in Anaheim, just wrapping up one in Santa Barbara, and has several hundred units poised to begin this year in Hollywood, Orange County, and NorCal. Greg tells us he's seeing a lot of early due diligence among existing clients who want to do podium and wrap projects, as well as increased interest in building shovel-ready rental properties that were approved and permitted as condos pre-recession.He began his career in commercial development and construction and has built nearly 10,000 high-density residential homes throughout the country. That came in handy in 2002, when Snyder Langston tapped Greg to lead the start-up and growth of SL Residential, leveraging the builder's expertise with commercial construction into the residential market.
