That Real Estate Degree Matters
It's that time again--a new crop of CRE grads. (If you have a pool, you are required by law to host some sort of graduation party.)Yesterday, we chatted with Long Market Property Partners' Justin Shapiro, who graduated from the USC Dollinger Master of Real Estate Development (MRED) program earlier this month.
One of the program's stars, Justin formed Long Market with a partner and, together with an equity partner out of Seattle just closed on 995 Market St in San Francisco. The office building is being renovated and repositioned. Justin tells us he enrolled in the MRED program last June to sharpen his skills on the development side, commutingfrom San Francisco for 11 months. (You thought your school bus ride was tedious?) There, he got inspiration to become an entrepreneur.
Dollinger Properties Dave Dollinger (right, with USC Price School of Public Policy dean Jack Knott) donated $10M to endow the schools master of real estate development degree last fall. Director Chris Redfearn notes this year's class is the program's inaugural graduates. They're also the first class since the real estate bubble burst to see opportunities in developmentand robust hiring from development firms.
