Construction is going full speed ahead on Miracle Mile, where the $300M Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences' museum (Wilshire Boulevard and Fairfax Avenue) is rising next to LACMA.

Designed by Italian architect Renzo Piano, the museum is at the site of the former May Company Wilshire department store.

When it is completed, visitors will be able to view drawings of costume designs, manuscripts, storyboards, screenplays and thousands of photos and other items related to the movies, according to Urbanize LA.

There will also be theaters, galleries and exhibition spaces.

A glass structure in the shape of a sphere will be built on top of what used to be a parking lot and an annex to the old department store.

The Academy Museum is scheduled to be finished in spring 2018. [ULA]
