International Olympics Committee Decision May Be A Win For LA Games
The International Olympic Committee board plans to recommend awarding the 2024 and 2028 Summer Olympics Games simultaneously.
IOC President Thomas Bach made the announcement Friday. The decision could ensure LA will play host to the games within the next 11 years, Curbed Los Angeles reports.
L.A. and Paris are the only cities left in the running. Rome and Budapest already dropped out.
Awarding the 2028 games early would allow the IOC to guarantee both cities a chance to host, but the board recommendation would still need full IOC approval.
Paris has been the reported favorite for 2024.
The LA2024 Committee said this week it would be open to hosting the games after 2024.
If the full IOC accepts the board's recommendation, it will meet in September to decide which city will host the games both years.
