Satellite-maker Aerospacelab has planted a flag in the South Bay, signing a nearly 35K SF lease in Torrance for space that will serve as both a manufacturing facility and the company's U.S. headquarters.

The new HQ is at 20000 S. Vermont Ave. in Torrance. The building, owned by an LLC called Park and Lauren, also includes just over 6,500 SF of office space, according to a release from JLL.

“This was an ideal location for Aerospacelab because of greater Los Angeles' serving as a booming aerospace hub for start-ups in close proximity to the U.S. Space Force Base, Space Force Space Systems Command offices, major contractors, and other aerospace companies,” Tina Ghataore, Aerospacelab's North America CEO and group chief strategy and revenue officer, said in a statement.

The South Bay is home to a growing collection of aerospace companies and has long had ties to the aerospace and aviation industries. Earlier this year, the nonprofit Aerospace Corp. announced plans to invest $100M in its campus in El Segundo, the Los Angeles Times reported at the time.

“Demand for manufacturing space in the South Bay is on the rise as new startups in aerospace, defense and hard tech continue to emerge and companies are capitalizing on the rich labor pool in the market,” JLL senior associate Caroline Bethel said in a release.

This will be Belgium-based Aerospacelab’s first factory in the U.S. The company opened a Palo Alto office in 2023, which it maintains. The Torrance location will be able to produce an average of two satellites a week, according to a release from the company.
