Santa Monica Airport Set To Close In 2028
The FAA and Santa Monica Airport have come to an agreement to close the airport in 2028.
As part of the agreement, the 227 acres on which the Santa Monica Airport sits will revert to Santa Monica's residents, Santa Monica Next reports. The plan also includes the Santa Monica Airport's runway being immediately reduced to 3,500 feet, which will reduce air traffic in the area by limiting the type of aircraft that can use the airport.
Neighbors have raised environmental concerns because of the airport over the years.
The Santa Monica Airport's operations must cease on Dec. 31, 2028.
Snapchat signed a $3M lease last year for almost 80k SF at the airport. The lease is scheduled to expire at the end of 2021. [SMN]
