Delayed Medallion 2.0 Mixed-Use Project in Downtown LA Restarted
Developer Saeed Farkhondehpour has revived plans to build Phase 2 of Medallion at 306 S Main St in Downtown LA. Last week an EIR for Medallion 2.0 was filed with the LA Department of City Planning.
Located at 4th and Main streets in Downtown’s Old Bank District, Phase 1 of Medallion, which was completed in 2010, includes two six-story residential buildings with 96 apartments and 85k SF of retail to accommodate 200 tenants. As proposed in 2013, Phase 2, which was designed by Kevin Tsai Architecture, includes four 13-story residential towers connected by bridges, with up to 400 apartments; 38k SF of retail; a 24k SF cinema; 25k SF of public green space; a five-level parking garage; and possibly a boutique hotel. This project will activate a dead, derelict corner at Main and 3rd streets in the Little Tokyo neighborhood, which is experiencing a surge in mixed-use residential projects, according to Urbanize LA. Earlier this year, Holland Partner Group broke ground on an eight-story residential-retail project at 222 S Main St, connecting Little Tokyo and the Historic Core. This project, which is next door to the historic Cathedral of St. Vibiana, includes 238 apartments and 4k SF of ground-floor retail space. [ULA]
